Sterilization w/o a Pressure Cooker

I have a 7.5 quart stew pot and about 24 jars to sterilize. The jars already have holes in the top and Im going to put aluminum foil on the tops. Can I stack the jars? Cuz from what I understand (and what Ive done before) without the pressure cooker the jars should be sitting half deep in water. Im planning on doing this tonight so any help would be appriciated.

Sorry, uhh... Ive been here a while and I usually dont post without searching first but this time I just plum forgot.
From what I read there are a couple of people that say this would be okay, but I would like some more input. Gracias

Yes, I always stack mine. Sometime 3 high as long as you have foil to prevent water going into jars. Don't own a pc yet so I have always boiled jars and so far have been lucky with no contams. Be careful not to put too much water in pan, can splash into jars when boiling. I go about 1 1\2 inch high up with water on first row of jars. Its the steam you want so keep a tight lid on pan.

You can stack them, no problem. Just make sure you have a good fitting lid, so the jars are "bathing" in steam.

BTW- I fucked up hardcore just now, 12 cups brf and 6 cups verm and about 6 cups of water... that just sucks. Thanks for the help though.
