Just curious.

Say I decided to take one of the widemouth jars, get it completely colonized..

And instead of birthing and following with DnR or casing, I just "cased" by opening the jar, leaving the cake inside and putting field capacity verm or coir on the top of it?

Would it even work?

yeah you could do that but you would have way less fruiting surface area. edit: plus if you are using the pf tek there will already be dry verm on top and blah: you would be shooting yourself in the foot by not birthing\dunk\roll. seriously  . you really should birth it

If you really want to grow in a jar then birth it, crumble, put about 2 inch of cake into as many quart jars as can fit, put some verm over the top. Instant fruiting chamber.
