DMT lung pains
    #9072833 - 10/13/08 07:54 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

A good friend, after smoking DMT that many others had smoked and suffered no physiological afflictions from, is claiming to be suffering from sharp lung pains since he indulged.  He loved his 2-3 trips of the night as did everyone else present, but claims that after smoking it he noticed an ache in his chest that intensified and then localized to around his sternum area.  The pain has since not gotten better or worse but remains, a constant reminder with each breath.

I need advice on this one, and so does he.  I imagine he'll be okay, especially since nobody else suffered the same effects, but he is concerned (I feel irrationally) that he somehow inhaled a small piece of lye or something.  Had he done this, would symptoms be similar to his in effect and duration?  Any help is welcome, thanks all.

hmm

sounds like a vascular issue. if i'm not mistaken, dmt is a vasoconstrictor. taking a vasodilator (such as vinpocetine) may alleviate the pains, it will certainly improve blood flow. side effect may be a temporary dull headache

lye vaporization requires much higher heat than you can supply.
b.p is 1390°C

sodium carbonate wash would be better than ammonia wash, as some report loss of product when filtering with a cold ammonia wash

Thanks dude.  I'll let him know and report any effects for the sake of science back to this thread.

Two days now, but with all your collective information he has decided to just ride it out.

you see, the reason i ask is this; i'm an asthmatic, and whenever i smoke something with a thicker smoke, (e.x. salvia), i usually experience some lung pains for a few days afterward. something that often loosens it up for me is this:

Get a pot of water, set it to boiling, when steam is rising very strongly, get a towel, place it over your head and lean over the steam, taking deep breaths for about ten minutes, occasionally taking a few seconds break.

Considering that vasodilators are not immediately available, this is good to know.  I'll pass the info down.  Thanks.

Did he cough up a lung or something after the hit, or did the pain become noticable later?

Good call. He'll ride it out. That's one of the cool things about the human body, it heals itself.

I've had these sternum/chest pains on and off throughout my life. Typically it only lasts 20minutes, but I've had this problem that ended up lasting 12 hours. His rib cage is out of alignment, and with every breath he feels a sharp pain near his sternum right?

It sounds scary, but the *only* thing that fixes this problem, is by stretching backwards. It will hurt like hell for 5 seconds, but if done correctly the rib starts protruding/causing the pain. Or he can see a chiropractor.

I am almost positive his rib cage is out of alignment and almost positive that this is ****not related to the DMT he ingested.

hope he's okay.

He didn't do shit and the pain has subsided now, day three after doing the DMT.  He'll probably get around to trying it again, and if he does I'll post in here to clarify the source of his pain.
