Trich!!!!!
    #9071290 - 10/13/08 02:13 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

So I had 3 bulk spawns in a greenhouse with pins just begining to from.  I noticed one of the spawns had lots of little green spots on the top mostly on the exposed WBS. So I pitched it.
My question is should i be worried about the rest of my bulk projects?

I recently had a bad case with trich, my grow room was so infested with it that it even contaminated healthy tubs after being exposed to room air.

I just bleached the walls with straight bleach, sprayed the borders with Clorox, vacuum and steam cleaned the carpets and loaded every single fabricated material into garbage bags to be washed. It's a lengthy process but it solved the trich problem

Funny thing, I ordered syringes from a well known and liked vendor, inoculated and low and behold what to I see, green specs where the mycelium has broke out....heh, it sucks eh buddy. Just clean it up.

Alright thanks for the advice guys.
What about the other pans i still have in there? (keep? pitch?)

There were some really nice clusters of pins on that cake and I cut a couple out that were away from the bulk safe to keep.  I dont reeally want to start over yet

Should I keep the the other pans or toss the other pans?

I just cleaned the green house and my closet area with bleach and am waiting for it to air out a little then i plan on oust bombing my room I'm washing all my clothes right now (glad i'm a poor college student)

Damn trich.  The past 2 bulk attempts have been over taken by it. That was in two different houses.  I may just stick to cakes. lots of em.

How long should i wait before i put my pans back in my clean fruiting chamber?
PLEASE
Bleach breaks down in to a chlorate ion ClO- will that hurt the mycelium?

In your original post, it looks liek the trich was in your casing layer though. A lot of it happens in the peat moss. Just leave your bulk un-cased or roll(sprinkle) it with verm, like a cake =)

You don't have to case cubensis.

How are you preparing your casing layer. Your not sterilising it are you?

if you use peat you also gotta invest in some ph strips and lime, and gypsum.

Which is why I said _COULD_. The brunt of that post was to make the point that it was errous to assume so quickly a sponsor's spore syringe was contaminated from (the sounds of it) one jar.

I'm surprised nobody has caught that yet.  You should never have exposed grains on the top of any project.  That's just asking for contaminants to enter.  Always cover grains with either substrate or casing material.

I didnt case it.  Nor did i have any intention to.

I just spawned the WBS to hpoo from tenn stud.

I dont know why i didnt put a layer over the top of the spawn that makes sense.

Tempting to go back to the dumpster and look for the tray.  But it wasn't cased it was a substrate.

Once your casing layer has trich just toss it out man, I just went through two months of this, one tub would be healthy then when I fanned almost the next day I'd see small speckles of what looks like icing sugar on the mycelium which is actually trich spores  before they turn green. Once trich is in a tub its pretty much lost, although they can and will still fruit depending on how far along the bulk is colonized  but its really not worth the risk of further contaminating your place.

As far as sponsor syringes, I knew it was the sponsors fault when the spores germinated and there was green mold in the center of every single germinated site in the jar  not to mention the S.O.T.M and one set of jars from the contaminated syringes did not even germinate and plus everything was done in a glovebox that's been used for plenty of G2G's and agar work without prior issues
