What is wrong with my grow?

This is my first grow, cambodian in WBS and spawned into coir. I mixed ~2 quarts of the colonized WBS with ~8 qts of coir (almost a full brick), and put it all in a 16qt sweater box, which I then put inside a monotub. The substrate in the box only comes about halfway up the side of the box, so Im worried that the substrate doesnt get enough FAE.
Anyway, I spawned everything approx 2 weeks ago, and mycellum growth looked good for a while, but after a week, I stopped seeing any growth, despite there being many spots of uncolonized coir on the top layer. Now the entire layer just looks mostly grayish (probably because the mycellum is so thin) with a lot of blue spots. For a while, I thought this might be the beginning stages of a contam, but perhaps its not and just the result of poor growing conditions.
Does anyone have advice as to what I should do or what's causing this? Ive already tried misting with distilled water a few times because the uncolonized coir looked really dry, but I still havent seen much growth.
I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow.

I thought the same thing at first, but it doesn't look like cobweb at all. I think the greyness is just from the thin white mycellum over the brown coir. I also tried spraying with h202, which did nothing.

If you use h202 dab with a cotton ball don't spray, cobweb is easy to spot on coir, it looks nothing like myc, the only time you should see blue would be after full colonization if it get bruised. what you're describing with the gray and specs of blue is textbook cobweb.

If your doing a monotub you shouldnt be putting a box inside of the monotub, monotubs are done by putting your substrate in the monotub itself.
In regards to using h202, spraying the infected area is the correct method of treatment. If it was cobweb, it would have fizzled and melted. Peroxide that comes in a brown bottle is 3% which doesnt need to be diluted and can be used straight out the bottle.
During colinisation you dont want FAE. You only want FAE once your bulk sub has fully colinised.
dont introduce to fruiting conditions until your sub has fully colinised.
How did you prepare your coir?

GAYDOLF might be right, but I spray cobweb with h2o2 rather than dabbing. It shocks the myc, but imo it covers the area including the growth you might not see yet. Cobweb is very fluffy/airy slightly grey vs myc which is much more dense and white as white can be in comparison. There's a page somewhere on this site that has great pics of the various contams, but I'm not energetic enough to look it up... sorry...
If you sprayed it and it didn't diminish, it's possibly some other contam. No matter what, I recommend getting it away from other projects to prevent cross contamination.
Your first grow should be PF Tek <- click that if it wasn't obvious. For several reasons - it's the basic and more effort than most, but you'll benefit in the long run. PM me if you want my full story on why it's better to start off with...

I still don't think it's cobweb. The gray I'm seeing isn't really thin and wispy like cobweb. Also, it hasn't spread like crazy all over the tray.
I'm starting to come to the conclusion that my problem is a lack of moisture and humidity (thus the mycellum drying out and turning slightly blue?). So maybe I should dunk for a day? But I'm a first time grower, so I'd rather hear from those of you with more experience before I do anything. Like I already said, I'll try and get some pics tomorrow, which would help a thousand times more than these useless words.

You still havnt answered how you prepared your coir??
Blue could be bruising which may indicate lack of moisture. In a monotub the substrate itself provides humidity. If done properly its pretty much set and forget.
You should have at least 1 hole on each side stuffed with polyfill.
I still say that if your sub is not fully colinised it shouldnt be getting any FAE.

You've obviously did your research - props for that. You're right that it could be a lack of humidity, so my advice is to raise humidity (tell me something else I don't know...) and see what happens. There are several ways - cool mist or ultrasonic humidifier, misting, perlite SG FC, etc etc...
Good luck and please post pics when you can.

Yeah, I know a box inside a monotub isn't the best idea, but I didn't have enough spawn to fill the entire tub. I intend to do a proper monotub grow next time around.
I prepared straight coir following this tek (but without any additives): http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/8311725/an/0/page/0

Mono tubs dont need humidification. The substrate itself is supposed to provide all the moisture that is needed.

Yeah, I know that monotubs, in ideal conditions, need no humidity, but I think that I may have prepared the coir without enough moisture. I thought it was pretty close to field capacity, though. I'll hold off on making any more assumptions until I get some pics up.

i think you need to make a shotgun fc out of that tub and take the box with substrate out and cover the top of it with tin foil with holes\ micropore tape over the holes. i bet your substrate quit colonizing because you kept checking on it and letting c02 escape ,providing fae which is a pinning trigger and tells the mycelium to quit colonizing. you can also cover the bulk sub with a clear glad wrap\holes covered with micropore tape. then you can see its progress without porviding fae.

yes you need to incubate your sub till full colonization. dont put it in the fruiting chamber and fan it or anything

yeah keep bulk substrates cover'd until they are fully colonized! trying to fruit it with uncolonized portions is asking for contams. no misting or even leting it get fresh air till fully colonized.= you shouldnt even be able to see coir. only white mycelium. cover that shit up and hope it takes back off. thats just my advice. and research fruiting conditions. pinning triggers.

Ok. I spent weeks doing research on this, but somehow I missed the part about covering up colonizing substrates. Oops. At least I learned this before I tried a larger bulk grow.
I just covered up the box with foil. Just before I covered it up, I saw some yellow spots (now in addition to the blue and greyish areas. I've got quite the colorful substrate now. ). But a quick search told me that yellowing is what the mycellum does when it's releasing excess moisture or dying or something bad. At least it's not a contam. This yellowing just showed up after I again misted the box today, so I'm sure it's due to excess moisture. Anyway, I've got it covered up and hopefully the mycellum start growing again (if I haven't already killed it all). Thanks a lot for the advice.

yeah man no misting of non-fully colonized substrate either. you want to hold back every pinning trigger till fullycolonized so when it is, you can introduce every pinning trigger at once. you will want to put holes in the foil. and cover those holes with micropore tape. this is for gas exchange. not air as in fae.. view colonizing substrate as no different as your spawn in the jars. kick them back and let them colonize in a safe place. .

Ok. I put a layer of plastic wrap over as suggested, poked 6 holes and covered them in micropore tape, and now I'll wait and see what happens. Interestingly, I see a few very small pins starting to poke through the surface. I think I should write a tek on how NOT to grow mushrooms.
Here's a pic. Check out all that blue. I'm also seeing little brown beads on the top layer now, which I'm guessing is excess moisture. Fuck.

The picture isn't the greatest, but you can see alot of darker, blue, spots. But I haven't seen any of these spots spread, so I doubt it's a contam
