I only have one issue with this forum and its the amount of posts I see asking for good vibes.
It seems more like they are trying to assure themselves that other people agree with their behavior. It seems to needy and also fake, because people are responding on request.
Like, when someone says wish me luck they arent really asking for people to stand there and go good luck!
Does this make me seem like an asshole?
I just think it demeans the value of good vibes that are not promted.
I dont understand the point of asking for someone to send you wishes - you might as well just wish it yourself!!
that said, good vibes are a nice thing. Just not when someone tells others to give them

I don't understand that at all personally. How are you going to send someone "good vibes". What you experience is based on what we all already know, set, setting, all that stuff. Maybe knowing others are wishing you well helps but from random people it does seem a little fake. But hey, if it makes someone feel better then why not I guess.

I sort of enjoy it, it gives sort of a sense of community that we all have in our tripping. Just seeing it gives you that assurance that other people understand what your about to embark on, and for some less....stable? trippers,that sense can do a hell of alot... it's something simple and nice! Hasn't the same behavior that lead you to this site taught you to appreciate the simple things that can bring a smile..... yea ...lame I'm just saying, if you don't like it,don't knock because others do!

It depends on your level of understanding....
you may see it as someone bieng fake and it being just emoticons and words.
Others with a greater understanding who may actually care and wish for the person to have a magical experience see it quite differently

It can get scary out there all alone. Even without making the leap to "everything is energy", it can still be psychologically grounding. It can add some sort of link to a community. Like ropes attached to a hot air balloon.

Yeh I can imagine that in the depths of a trip, it would be comforting to get on the net and see that people have responded to you positively. But I really dont think that is the main function of the request for good vibes.
Is it really so that you can have a page to check on in the middle of a bad trip?
I like vibes and positivity, I really do. I just dont like it when people ask for it to be sent their way. But Im beginning to understand that a lot of people take it seriously

I used to head the "Written Vibes Nervous and Circulatory System Development (W.V.N.C.S.D.)
This was back and 69' though, before the adent of
testing Vibes across the internet. The project was
only up a year, before they canned it, to infact
develop the internet.
There are no more government studies set up
for Vibes(c) as far as I know; I tried to contact
old lab hands, such as Shulgin, however they
declined any comments...weird.
Nowadays, straying away from a simple, hand
written letters containing words of good will,
we have Vibe Hackers, imitation vibes, Vibe
sub contractors, Vibe deliverers that are even
part of blackwate.
On a trip one day, SAW the Vibe Fairy, which is essentially a random algorithm of fractals resembling
a body with Milton Berle's head tacked on.
Pretty creepy, but made me smile for sure.
Vibes are serious business, requiring at least
an Organic Chemisty Degree and a Culinary Degree
to at least study the subject seriously enough
to gain any tangible evidence. This is due
to the confusion of where the originate: Either
the stomach manifested as butterflies, or an
increase in serotonin.
Hopefully, in the future I will be operating
an underground Vibe Research Facility, complete with
the neccessary tools: A Proton Pack, Hsaw-aknow,
and J-Lo perfume (not imitation)
Science'll get 'er done.

It comes down to whether you believe in the eternality of thought/emotion. Do thoughts have substance? Does the tree make a sound in the woods when nobody hears it? Are all experiences recreated in the perceiver? Can emotion be transferred? How much of the artist's intent is conveyed in the piece, or is it all in the execution?

"Professor Leslie Francis of the University of Bangor has studied 31 experiments (conducted to the "highest professional standards") into the effectiveness of prayer.
The trials would typically take a group of hundreds of patients recovering from heart surgery, randomly divided into two groups, one of which is prayed for. None of the patients would know they were or weren't being prayed for.
"The findings are quite staggering," he says. "Studies show that patients in hospital who are being prayed for (even when they do not know they are being prayed for) are more likely to recover."
But according to Dr David Laws of the University of Manchester the kind of prayer which asks God to do something is only relevant if you have a particular understanding of God.
"It depends on God being an intervening God who breaks into our world and mops up our mess whenever we make one."
That is a kind of God that Professor Francis says he would be uncomfortable with, since it raises questions that if God can intervene, why does he not do so to avoid more human suffering?
But former cancer patient Mary Ligertwood, from Milton Keynes, believes prayer did play a part in her recovery.
When she was found to have cancer in her breast, kidney and lymph gland at the age of 50, she was given a year to live. And yet within six months, she walked away free of the disease.
Now 13 years on, she puts her recovery down to a combination of the power of surgery - she had five operations - and the prayers of her friends. But she does not consider herself to have experienced a "miracle cure".
She does though consider it a miracle that the whole experience of diagnosis, surgery and recovery was for her such an enjoyable - and spiritual - one.
"Again and again, people visiting me in hospital would say: 'Why are you so happy?' For me it really was a very wonderful time... There was no element of fear there at all."

I believe there is potential magic in collective thought. It seems we have a way of getting together to will things to happen.
On the personal side of it though, people under hypnosis have developed welts from the suggestion of a cigarette burning his/her arm. Placebos work. Positive and negative thought can affect the physical.

Well once again, i get vibes and i like it when people send them. As for analysis, I started this thread because of what pleas for vibes made me feel. We all have our own senses. I analyse the matter after the sense, to make sense of my feelings. I think everyone is benefited by doing this.
And yes maybe I would like good vibes and maybe the good vibes sent to me in this thread really did made me happy.
I dont think I am a cold, rigid, analytical person at all. I was supremely bummed by those Bad vibes.
And this thread has shown me more the power of peoples expression.
But it doesn't really change the way I feel about people asking for vibes.
Maybe I shouldnt have started this by implying that I had 'an issue with this forum'.. it seemed like a compliment when i wrote it

Asking for good vibes is not the same thing as telling people to give them good vibes. It's the difference between saying fuck you motherfuckers, give me my goddamn fucking good vibes, and politely asking for some well wishes from people.
That being said, it's kind of a gauche to explicitly request them--if it's in the cards, they'll send you good vibes without your even having to ask.

I went on a 14 gram trip a few months ago, which was pretty intense to say the least. On the verge of losing my sanity under the high dose, I happened to think of a thread that I had posted talking about the trip a couple days earlier, and remembered that a few Shroomerites had sent good vibes.
This was sufficient to give me a powerful burst of euphoria and flip my trip into the heavenly stratosphere. Be it a placebo effect or not, it works.

Sometimes it seems to me that people want to be sent "good vibes" because they believe that it will help produce a positive experience. This is fine with me and if people want to say that they send them and the receiver benefits because (s)he's aware of the vibes being sent, then fine. Some good vibe requests do sometimes seem like requests for insurance against catastrophic trips. In cases like this, I feel it is more prudent to point out that ultimately, vibes can only do the work for people who believe in them and the desperate ones need to be told to deal with their own problems responsibly. The hard part is knowing which requests are made out of fear because some people will go into psychedelic experiences with anxiety and try to avoid their anxiety by not expressing it to others.

If you think it's needy or annoying or whatever, then don't participate in it. For those who enjoy it, they should be able to do so. I personally wouldn't make a post to ask for good vibes but it doesn't bother me when others do; I can see how it would be reassuring to get good vibes from fellow Shroomeryites. Taking a psychedelic can sometimes be very anxiety provoking, and if essentially asking for good vibes from others in this community helps them, then by all means, they should.

Just for the record, people pray, say "God Bless You" when folks sneeze, say "Goodbye" (God be w' Ye) and engage in a myriad of other social niceties which arguably have no value other than they reveal the good character of the individual. No harm is EVER done, and some (as yet poorly understood) good may actually come of it.
Sick folks who are prayed for statistically have better outcomes than those who do not receive the prayers of others. Wishing someone "good vibes" is, essentially, a prayer for the well-being of that person. I just don't see the downside, nor understand why it pisses you off.

Whats wrong with wishing good vibes? I know from experience that in certain states of mind one good or bad feeling at the right moment can mean the difference between having an amazingly positive experience and sliding into a complete nightmare. Knowing people are sending you good vibes might give you enough of a lift to ensure a positive experience. I dont know for sure because I'm new here and have never been sent 'good vibes' over the web, but I just don't see what your problem is.
