"To be honest, I prayed about it," Alex Kendrick said. "I said, 'God, would you give me an idea that will impact all of our culture.' "
Quote:
While he was out jogging and praying one day, the idea for "Fireproof" came to him. He footed it over to his brother's house about a mile away and told him the story: A firefighter who lives by the mantra "never leave your partner behind" at work is about to do just that in his personal life.

Looks good!!!

Kirk Cameron, a Christian evangelist, refuses to kiss any woman other than his wife. To film a scene in which his character in this movie kisses his wife, the filmmakers had to dress Cameron's real-life wife, Chelsea Noble, as the wife character (played throughout the rest of the movie by Erin Bethea) and shoot the kissing scene in shadow so the difference between Noble and Bethea would not be as evident on screen.
His wife didn't take his last name?

Kirk Cameron also did an acting stint as Christian superhero "BibleMan" too back in the 90's. You can guess where that went.

Had the film not included sequences of Cameron saving people in the line of duty—an occupation that's useful in supplying many cheesy metaphors—he would come off as an irredeemable villain, quick to fly off the handle at the slightest provocation. (A scene where he wallops his computer—source of his obsession with boats and Internet pornography—with a bat is a marvel of unintentional hilarity.) The best he can do on Day 40+ is bring his ailing wife a damp cloth and a bag full of Chik-Fil-A. What a catch!

Man, I appreciate what they're trying to do, but even speaking as a Christian, the fact remains that the best cinema, comedy and stuff like that is the hardest hitting and closest to real life. This stuff, jeez. Of course, if I wanted to do a "Christian movie" about my "Christian marriage" based on my 12 years with my wife, no Christian would want to watch it, cuz it might lead them into doing drugs or something, so you get window dressing tripe like this.
One time I had a few churchian type friends who were trying to ween me off secular stuff (Oh Goody) and made me watch this 2 hour Christian standup "comedy" DVD. I couldn't believe it was real. Or that somebody thought that recording such nonsense was a good idea. But they sat there laughing, telling me that "my heart was hardened" and that "The Holy Spirit needed to open my eyes" and all that good stuff as to why I couldn't find the humor.

The only agreeable Christians I've ever met are the intelligent ones that think they're Christian but have hand-picked the bits they believe to such a huge extent that they are actually thinking for themselves and entertaining some kind of realistic spirituality without being able to fully let go of the schema they were trained in.
The true Bible freaks have such an air of insane superiority that it genuinely scares me and they often come across as dark and harbouring individuals wearing a shallow mask of pleasantry.
Walking around knowing that almost everybody in my life is shortly going to be burning in eternal agony would probably put my mind in a bad place too. That must completley fuck you psychologically speaking. Watching your kids grow, needing to control them so they don't incur God's wrath. Not doing good because good is in your heart but because of reward and punishment. It's fucking fruitloops

Budhha was a cool god but was a fat bastard.
I like the greek thunder god Zeus, he gets to kick people ass with lightening bolts.
Its about time we made up some new gods - I'm off to start a cult - even better I can pretend its based on science.
Oh, fuck dam it - Ron Hubbard already beat me to it.

if i had to choose a god, i'd choose the sun
a few reasons being..
its predictable and consistent in its rise/fall
you die without it
you sustain yourself off of it
you cant see anything without it
its large
and your eyes hurt when you look at it
so if there was a logical choice for an illogical question, it would be the sun in my opinion.
sadly gods are just giftwrap

Buddha was not a god. Just a illuminated being, one of a few...ever. If he actually existed.

Seriously though, he has attained a god like status for he is worshiped.
People saying Buddhism is not a religion but its still something very similar as its a set of ideas that you follow to guide your life. It also has key figures of respect - who apparently shouldn't be worshiped (from the philosophy) but many do idealize Buddha and other key figures in Buddhism.

there's nothing god like about his status and he definitely isn't worship, although fools may worship him, but a person can then again worship all sorts of things that appear to be powerful (god-like) to them. i like how people want to fit buddhism into the religion category so they feel they've gained some understanding of it and can move on.
buddha isn't to blame people idealize him more than manson is guilty of people blaming him for their own bad deeds, for example.

I agree.
I was just pointing out that although it is allegedly "a philosophy" not "a religion" it still shares many of the same aspects.
