nat bugs getting in jars
    #9054091 - 10/09/08 02:40 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

so I lost 6 jars to the bugs once again its so crazy to me how they get in there! I got some very nice shrooms off my cakes and have crumbled a few and cased with poo! The RR video is worth every penny!

Now a few questions the video dosen't cover.

How long should I let the shrooms grow before picking? (because I noticed after about the 9th day there was not much growing any more.)

Should I resoak the cakes for 24 hrs after picking?

can I case after pinning has started?

so is it bad to let the mushroom grow past the point of the viel breaking? Also I have three diffrent strans but it seems they all look the same???? whats up with that? what about the temp in the tub? I have been keeping it around 81f to 83f is this ok?

pick shrooms just when you see the veil tearing - 1 after that they might gain mass but no more potency. 2 not long after that the spores will fall and make a mess

resoak after each flush - not sure if 24 hours is required - maybe someone else with more cake experience will chime in.

I wouldn't case after pinning, but I'm honestly not sure if that's bad or not. Seems like the whole thing would slow down while it's working through the casing.

birthing tub / fruiting chamber should be mid-upper 70s imo. I've read dozens of posts saying up to 90F is fine as well which makes since since cubes at least are native to warmer climates. I also read that the lower temp helps with pinning while higher temp helps with growing after they started. That also makes sense - cooler at night then warmer in the day...

Hope this helped and good luck.

If you bought the DVD then why are you asking if you should dunk your cakes after the flush.

Dont crumble your cake after first flush, it wont be good for spawning to bulk or casing (straight casing cakes doesnt improve yeilds).

If you want to spawn your cakes. Do it after full colinisation. You want your spawn contaminant free.

damn I cased a few cakes for nothing I guess. And what should I do with the diatomaceous earth and jars? I use it in the yard and garden but jars and mushrooms I am unsure of.
