I am leaning towards yes, but if ALL memories are erased upon entry, what would be the basis of one's desires, which are so easily satisified in this heaven?

i have a question. you say all memories would be erased...but then say that it would only be for knowing that the heaven wasn't that way all along. so, you would have no recollection of friends or family?
if so, i don't know if i would, because part of why i would say yes is to share a life with another that i probably won't in this reality. then again, why the hell not
Not necessarily... one could set up the situation so that one could have memories of friends and family implanted (and every other memory that makes you, you), but modified just so that you're not aware that you embarked on this simulation.
Who knows; maybe in the real reality you agreed to submit to the simulation and now you're already part of it.

This whole scenario (minus the memory loss) was done in an old Twilight Zone episode. A ne'er do well dies in a robbery and goes to The GReat Reward where he can have anything he wishes. At first he is ecstatic and indulges in every fantasy, but he quickly become bored.
He finally tell his handler (Sebastian Cabot) that he wished to go to the other place.
Cabot who had been like a sweet butler taking care of the thief, grows quite chilly and says thunderously, "My Dear Sir! THIS, IS, the Other place!"
*cue Rod Serling for the synopsis*

Hence the scenario where I stipulated utter control of every neurological process, so one could scale back what level of subjective boredom one felt to avoid this type of situation.
That being said, The Twilight Zone was a great show.

this thread kinda reminds me of that Conversation with Bob the Alien thread in M&P a while back. If it were like that, I might be tempted to go.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Of course, that idea concludes that it would be a superior state of existence, whereas this existence would be mundane no matter the experience.
There's a number of factors that could impact one's decision that haven't been discussed here.
I think the biggest of those factors is faith. I think I can fairly argue that those who belief in the Eastern philosophies, or some version of the same concept, would have a rather large struggle in deciding if actually faced with this choice. I only focus on this because of the population of this forum, I would assume the largest portion have some form of this belief (no I'm sure that doesn't have anything to do with the grander themes of tripping ).
Now, as I for this struggle. For example, if one were striving for Enlightenment according this that basic idea of faith, then making a choice to further obscure one's reality would be a step backwards. A step away from right vision and a step closer to "suffering." On the counter, it would arguably be a person's Karma to make this decision, which ever way they chose (think 4th dimensionally). Of course, an additional way of getting around this would be to acknowledge that one was essentially forgoing their "suffering."
I only point this out as an example of the sorts of factors that would weigh heavy on a person if faced with this decision.
To be, or not to be: that is the question:
That all said- I think this would be a massive undertaking... But I just might do it. I think it would be worth the experience, even if you didn't remember it.
Shit anyone notice how many italics I have in my post?

I would definitely do it. What your senses perceive is interpreted as 100% to your mind. Physiologically speaking, there is no difference between your life and your dreams, just a difference of sensory input.
