B+ on newspaper experiment
    #903928 - 09/24/02 05:58 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Not sure if you would consider this advanced if not move it to the proper forum. Anyway i decided to try growing on newspaper. I used a very small amount of newspaper soaked with boiling water and spawned with a little bit of grain spawn. I used no casing layer. today i pulled off an 8" monster. that was all that it fruited but it seems to be a lot for such a small amount of paper. i think i'm gonna try a larger amount of paper and case it 50/50 and see what it yields. just thought some of you might be interested to know this.

From what I've seen of these types of attempts (cubensis on lingin based substrate i.e. wood, paper etc) I am drawn to beleive the mycelium fruits using the nutrients from the grain rather than decomposing the paper. That would be why you ended up with one single mushroom..............

hi
I also tried to grow P.cubensis on cardboard...I didn't sterilize, just kept it wet.
over the whole cardboard i equally put little dots of mycelium...
I was growing very slowly, but also rhizomorphic.
no fruiting, however.
Cellulose isn't a good nutrient for P. cub.

I agree, and this applies to B+ as much as to any other cubensis imho.
