Good Job Especially for your first .
An even sub level will help to a more even casing depth and hence will help with a more even pinset .
Enjoy

Excellent flush though.
Thanks. I'm sure you're completely right, but i was trying to hurry and it's not easy twisting a big cluster when they're kind of tangled with other shrooms. I'm sure I'll do better next time.

I used 1/2" 50/50 casing layer, put back in the dark for I think a week, but maybe less... Patched, back in the dark for a day. Patched then fruited. Fruiting was just in a room with light 12/12 and a fan in the room.

Update 10/10/08: 1st flush cracker dry weight: 143.6 grams or 5.06 oz.
It might have been better if I had a better harvesting technique. It was a real hassle cleaning them- a lot more than I would have liked went in the trash. Probably not a huge difference, but you hate to see your baby boys get circumcised.

Looking good man I used your tek last night to start a new montub the only difference is I don't have a fancy 3 gallon bucket so I used a mop bucket with a foil lid and a hole punched in the foil.. Thanks again for the easy tek.. Ohh yeah I didn't add coffee only cause there is none in my household..

Thank you guys.
Damion5050, you can usually get a huge bag of spent coffee grounds at Starbucks. They often have it just sitting in a bucket in front of the counter to take, already bagged up. When I went in, the bucket was empty, so I just asked, and they handed me a bag; all free.
And just for the record the tek is large_dose's. I know you didn't mean my tek literally, but I just like to give credit where it's due.
You guys have a good weekend! I'm hoping to get my canoe on the river again before it snows!

Garden compost is what most use it for and what they assume. No questions. Most people don't think there's anything sinister about used coffee grounds!
No need to dry it out. You're just going to get it wet, anyway! Read over the tek again. Peace!

No, not really, if they do ask just say its for your garden, which is what they are expecting. And, no, if you plan to use your coffee grounds immediately there is no reason to dry them out. Oh, and if they don't have any by the door, ask the people behind the counter.

Mad River said: I used large_dose's How i pasteurize coir in bulk Tek, which uses this recipe:

I highly recommend this tek. It's very easy. I even used the same Lowe's bucket. Coir can be messy, but I imagine every sub can be messy.
Access denied to a tek? Could someone please give me access to this?
thanks.

Here is a copy of the tek.. You can't access it on your own cause you are a new member but, I just copied and pasted it...
Figured I'd share how i bulk pasteurize coir You could cook/spawn 10 bricks in a day... easily.
You need to go to Lowe's and get their 3.5 gal buckets and a lid. (These are extremely high quality buckets with easy grip handles i like them because liter and quart measurements are listed in increments all the way up each side of the bucket.)
I used the following recipe per bucket: 4.5 quarts water 1 brick coir 1 quart coffee 1 quart verm It came out to an avg 10 liters per bucket (almost 3 gallons)
Here are the exact steps i take: 1. Heat water up to 170 in PC 2. Throw in coir - let it expand for 5 minutes Keep the lid off 3. Throw in the coffee/verm - mix it all together real good 4. Close lid on PC - set it on high for 5 minutes The substrate will heat up to about 195-200 5. Turn off the stove - remove PC lid 6. Dump substrate into one of the buckets - cover - let cool Repeat steps 1 - 6 for each brick
I put a small hole 1/4'' in the middle of my bucket lid w/ polyfil so it can breathe. The polyfil is overkill, oh well - i like insurance.
With a long-stem thermometer it easily stayed above 175 in all buckets for over an hour, all the buckets cooled in 6-8 hours.

How big is that tub? 66 qt? i see you have 2 holes on each long side (2 inch or so?), and one on the top of each small side... are they covered with tyvek or what is that?... i planned on using polyfill but have no experience with it, if this would be easier im game.
