I happen to have an alder tree in my front yard. We cut it down a while ago because it was breaking but grew back a little bit and i was just wondering if i made some wood chips out of it and buried them ,would cyans grow on it?
I live in the PNW. Hour or two from Seattle, Washington.

You couldn't bury them...You could use the chips as spawn, and inoculate it with some cakes or old casings during early spring.
You hear of people just leaving a pile, and getting mushrooms to grow...Sometimes even cyans, but this all depends on if there is any spores around to inoculate the pile.
If you inoculated first with some cakes/casings then you would bury it...Or could bury it. To really answer your question the odds are against you, and it would take 1+ years to see growth of the cyans if you didn't introduce the mycelium first.
