I'm not very familiar w/ oven-bags - but what makes the Mycobags work good is the filter-patch they have on them for gas exchange.. I doubt an oven bag has that, but I dunno.. And you can also order EMPTY Mycobags from vendors for cheap - I know www.themadseason.com has 100 for $40

Works a treat. I have grown loads like that as it is EXTREMELY hard to find a decent sized PC that works at 15PSI here (outside the US) I finally got one a couple years back.
BUT pasteurize properly. A quick search will show you how.

Hi guys, I'm new here.
I just went ahead and ordered a B+ syringe from sporeworks as well as 2 Grow Bags (one from a reputable eBay seller, and one from themadseason.

I've grown using the basic PF tek before, but never with these bags, and I'm looking forward to giving them a shot.
I intend to use the bags the whole way through and not mess with any grow chambers, etc.. Any recommendations for incubation and fruiting temperatures? I have a closet
Thanks!

what is the general yield of one growbag, I am going to be growing for the first time and I'd like to get my moneys worth so growing can be cheaper for me than paying for eighths, quarters and the lot. After doing the math for one growbag, spores, and a syringe it would be around 50 bucks with shipping included, would the bags yield a large amount of mushrooms, I generally pay 35 for 3.5 grams and I'd like to get more than that at least.

Can someone better explain the process for the grow bag? From my understanding, you inoculate the bag, wait for mycelium to grow. Then you break it up and allow it to repair and spread more thoroughly through the bag.
AT this point, I'm confused.
The next step would be to fruit the bag, correct?
Would it be recommended to remove the brick from the bag and dunk it (put it in a bucket of water)? I've read tutorials where people take vermiculite cakes and dunk them, but what about a rye mycelium brick? Is this necessary?
Also, if you fruit the rye mycelium bag, would it be recommended to cut it in half so there is more surface area (and thus more possible locations for mushrooms to fruit??
My thinking is this:
I take the bag, open it up when I'm ready to fruit. Cut the brick in half and put it in a rubbermaid container that has perlite and use the mycelium brick as if it were a giant vermiculite cake. Will this work well? Or am I going about this all wrong.
It seems everyone else is just incubating the bag and then throwing dirt over it to fruit it...

1) inoculate bag
2) Wait for a certain % of substrate to be colonized
3) Break up and massage to spread the colonized bits all over the contents of the bag (speeds up the colonization process dramatically)
4) Either fruit in the bag, or put into a container and fruit, or use as spawn, or use to inoculate more bags.

Hope this bump is kosher, this thread is really helpful but o could use some advice on inoculating. On the Mad Season's site they say the following..
Quote:
Squirt between 2 to 5cc's of spore solution directly into the substrate material.
Where FooMan's advice is to..
Quote:
Inject your inoculant along the sides of the bag like you would a brf/verm jar so that you will see growth along the sides as soon as it occurs. This should help you not freak out when growth doesn't appear within a week.
My first question is, does FooMan's method actually improve or speed up colonization, or is just a matter of being able to 'see' the process sooner?
Second, the Mad Season recommends 2-5 cc's per bag. Should one inject it all in one shot or should one try to spread it around with several shots (the injection site is kind of small)?
-------------------- "Is", "is." "is" — the idiocy of the word haunts me. If it were abolished, human thought might begin to make sense. I don't know what anything "is"; I only know how it seems to me at this moment.

I've had a grow bag for 2 months now, and basically, only have the rye grain bag has colonized white sucessfully; does anyone from this thread have any tips? Is 2 months for rye grain bags still working?

Grow bag temp. question...
As the bags continue to colonize more and more, should the room temperature be changed, given that mycelium generates heat?...more mycelium, more internal heat, lower room temperatures needed?
Would I be able to read the internal temperature of a bag without introducing contaminants in hopes of noticing any temperature changes made as the substrate colonizes more and more..
Thanks in advance.
