Gypsum by weight or volume?
    #9019260 - 10/02/08 05:05 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

I was making some substrate yesterday-Acacia wood shavings, wheat bran and gypsum. On p150 of GGMM 3rd edition, Stamets has 2 formulas-both have 8 times as much bran as gypsum, but one formula is volumetric, the other by weight.

Gypsum is much heavier than bran. Is there a typo, or am I missing something?

Do you measure by volume or weight?

Well, I always measure by weight. So far, I only saw the by weight recipes in Stamets and elsewhere.

You would normally use by weight, based on the ratio in the recipe.
Say you wanted 2.5% gypsum and mixing 1 kg that would equate to 25 grams of gypsum.
