I've been reading how some of you are looking in earnest and not finding squat for long periods of time....and I questioned logging my experience as it may encite anger.....but here goes.
The weather started getting along with the cyan season about 10-12 days ago, but I was swamped with work.
I decided to go for a hunt this morning, stepped about 25 feet off the back porch and found these guys hiding in the bushes. There are about 5 middle aged blokes and 15-20 pins in the cluster.
I wandered around front and found another patch of 50 or so under blackberries in the front yard.
I suspected my yard was a good habitat around May and have been waiting all summer to see if it would produce.....BINGO!
My hedge against slugs is to pick tubaria and "blanket" mushrooms, shred them and ring the patches with their bodies....it's not perfect, but the slugs tend to hit them first and munch away....so far so good.
Keep at it....they're tricky little buggers to find, even if they're right under your nose.
Now I'm sleeping on the front porch with a shotgun....trespassers make powerful mulch around here.

Aren't you worried about those shredded mushrooms establishing and outcompeting the cyans? Congrats on the bountiful yard!

I hadn't thought of that. I have started taking spore prints and establishing them throughout likely areas that are inactive. Whenever I have to do some chainsawing or chipping for kindling I'm saving the shavings and making new beds.....Have to do my part for the environment, ya know.
These blanket shrooms are virtually everywhere anyways.....growing side by side with the actives, but I guess I'll just use the stems from now one.....can't think of a better way....any suggestions?

I love shroom hunting! Today I went to a local park, ran into 6 or 7 different shroom hunters in the course of 2 hours. One of them I gave a cigg and in exchange gleefully showed me his cyan patch, although they were all picked. I was under the impression that most shroom hunters were relatively private for their location, but this is the second time in a week that a shroom hunter volunteered their spots. I love the shroom hunting community, it makes me feel like im connected to a bunch of mycelium

I've found Gymnopilus luteofolius, Gymnopilus sapineus and Psilocybe baeocystis already along with the usual Psilocybe cyanescens.
Once my Psilocybe stuntzii patch fruits my last task(s) will be to find some azures and some Pluteus species.
-------------------- Message me for free microscopy services on Psilocybe, Panaeolus, and Gymnopilus species. Looking for wild Panaeolus cinctulus and Panaeolus olivaceus prints.

The area I found seems to be doing fairly good. Every week I am able to find about a 1/4 lb fresh cyans.
With lots of little guys just starting.
No complaints here

One major difference is the annulus that is near the middle of the stem in all the members of seciton Stuntzii.
Also cyans bruise a lot more and are a little pickier about their habitat.

I think this is a Strobilomyces floccopus or, Old Man of the Woods, but I didn't pick it to find out. Never seen one before outside of a book so I could definately be wrong. Either way, this thing is crazy looking!

Not Strobilomyces. Probably Cortinarius.

Very nice finds everyone.
Sitting in Northern California, it will be a few weeks until the temperatures drop enough and the rains begin.
The patches around here are in the most ironic places ever... we'll see how this year goes.

if it has a rust colored spore print, eat it, it;ll provide you all he iron you need but also make a dental appointment, that one will be pretty firm in texture
