I just picked another (the last?) tiny haul from my patch in Portland. I tried to take some photos, but my camera batteries just died and I don't feel like biking through the rain to buy more.
I have a question, though. I've been picking from this patch over the last month, and I'm fairly certain they're cyanescens (they're definitely psilocybin), but they're very very small. The biggest ones have caps no larger than a penny. I'm not picking pins - I've been watching the patch for a while and they don't get any bigger. The cap margins are wavy (tiny little waves), they bruise blue, the spore prints are the right color, and they're growing out of alder chips in a landscaped area, but they're way smaller than anything I found on the coast. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Sorry I don't have photos.

i might have found some similar to what you describe. but they do contain psilosiben i think, at least from my experience. the ones i found were about quarter sized caps in some grass, light tan, blue bruising, white stems, purple print

Im guessing the woodchips she laid down a year or two ago(thanks walmart) gave rise to these.
Is your theory that the mycelium is traveling or that the spores are traveling. Is there a possibility that the mycelium came up through the bottom of that pot? Awesome!! I have heard people calling cyans a "weed" mushroom because it grows everywhere and is very intrusive. Like its a bad thing???

Man I can't wait until I can post in the gathering forum. I'd love to hook up with some of you more experienced guys just so I can get a feel for what I'm looking for.
I've been reading books and the web for months now but nothing beats actual field work

ShockValue, I recommend joining your local mycological society and learning about mushrooms in general. Spend the springtime hunting for other kinds of mushrooms (i.e. not psilocybin) with people who know what they're doing, and develop a basic understanding of mushroom identification. Then, when next fall comes around, you'll be much better equipped to find psilocybes. Plus, it's a lot of fun to hunt for other kinds of mushrooms, particularly the edibles.

Yep yep, going to our local meeting for the first time next week! I just don't want to show up and say "hey, can you show me cyans?"
I've only been at this a few months, but so far I've found:
A.Muscaria Leccinum scabrum Boletus edulis Chanterelle Shaggy Parasol Helvella lacunosa
All orally tested and confirmed <grin>

Pics? I highly doubt any cyans could survive multiple deep freezes and that huge snow storm we got.

Looks like cyanofriscosas in the dehydrator, and I think the last four are Stropharia aeruginosa. When did you pick these?
