Man how are you finding these wild forest dwelling cyans! I have spent at least 7-10 or more hours looking for cyans in the forest (This was before I knew they were much more abundant in man made landscaped areas) with absolutely 0 luck. I give you mad props for taking the time to search in the forest and actually come up with some. Quite a feat my man

There are foes that look a lot like subbs and are very common. Look at the striate margin on the one cap pic 3. Never seen a subb that had that. Very interesting. I find so many variations of subbs. It would be sweet to take them down to micro levels and see if there is any difference between variations from place to place..

what color woodchips do cyan grow on..I've heard they have the same brown carmel color as the caps but I was curious...also are they more prolific on nature trails or landscaped buildings....I've been looking everywhere with no luck with either

It takes alot of patience, for they are very well hidden most of the time and the ones that arent usually get picked pretty small by noobs. Not to mention the nedal stings, scratches and spiders. but when you do happen to stumble across cyans growing on/in very rare habitats it is quite the rush. If you do happen to find a wild cyan patch, look EVERYWHERE around it. they colonize on almost every type of wood in these conditions.
Anyway, here are some pics I took today:

That sucks. The person using the lawnmower probably did not know what they were destroying.
Do you think the lawnmower will feel the effects?

Quick, go gather the lawn clippings!
On another note, the cool nights and incoming rain showers are giving me a good idea of what I'll be doing this weekend...just hope I don't see any lawnmowers taking out what I'm hunting for...!

Ahhhh that sucks about the stunzii...
I've been checking out alot of apartment complexes, lawns, and landscaped areas for psy. stunzii but no luck...
Are they a more prolific fruiter than cyans??
It seems like it's harder to find actives in bigger city areas (Portland) and easier where theres' more landscape including forests, parks, and trails.
Is it impossible to score some actives in the metropolitan areas or something??? geeez

its more likely that your going to find actives in metro areas than forested
they like the woodchips, and the commercial sod
look for massive commercial housing areas, like where they take an empty lot, make a street going through the middle, and pile 50 houses on it. the sod they lay should be the good stuff. try and check it within' the first 2-3 seasons to see if something fruits.

Bad news for us all, it may be a very short lived season. I overheard a news channel talking about almost "skipping" fall and heading straight into winter. The mountains are already getting hit with snow, which has only been dried up for about 4 months. I disagree as much as you do, i just thought id put that out there.

Found my second find(s) of the season. My first find was a single Gymnopilus luetofolius pin. Now in the same area on the same logs.
And right under the same log as the Gyms I found something that wasn't growing here last year. CYANS!!!!
Then I traveled a little further down and decided to dig through the tall dune grasses. I found about 4 logs half buried with a few newer (compared to the buried logs) and found some mushrooms that might be a different species of Gymnopilus. They smell of anise and the veil remnants are dark orange, the same color as my previous lueto prints.
On the way home I found some Cortinarius iodes.
Sorry for the quality if the pics. I need to get a new camera pronto! This Canon Powershot S400 (4MP) isn't cutting it. I want my old Sony DSC-W80! This Canon never wants to focus when I have a good shot.
I'll be going back in a few days to check on the many pins. There were a lot more pins than mature fruits. I'll have to check my other spots tomorrow.
The season isn't going to be bad because its getting so cold so quick. Last year when i picked my biggest fruitings of cyans I could barely feel my hands! I mean I was fucking COLD!!! My lueto and cyanofib spots didn't take off until about Nov and my stuntzii patch for the last 2 years never fruits until Dec. Cyans and azures tend to have a short season but there are other mushrooms to be found. My cyanofib patch put out mushrooms until the first week of Feb.
Happy hunting and be safe!

P. stuntzii
There were several clumps like this, and one clump that was all stalks, no caps... very weird looking. I think slugs favor the caps...perhaps my friend here could explain it...if he/she wasn't "tripping balls" as the kids say...

I always find eaten cyans in my forest patch. Sometimes I see a slug near it and think "wow that thing must be frying balls" I swear they know which ones ar psychoactive and they love to eat my cyans...

Just curious how portland has done in the past years...

Went out to do some hunting, found some great hunting areas where we where at, but due to wildlife refuge closers, and the present threat of sheriff's deputy guarding the entrance (due to duck hunters that press on past the gate if the sheriff isn't there), we didn't get to go pick the Libs that where 25 feet behind the sheriff's truck. So, we decided to enjoy the trails that where open. Saw a ton of red tree frogs, bright green frogs, snakes, and a HUGE freekin Chicken of the woods! All i had with me was a phone camera, and tis shelf was way up in a oak tree so sorry about the bad pics, but wanted to share non the less. This shelf was so large we looked to our feet, and there was two large pieces on the ground, it looked like they might had just fallen that morning from the weight of the dew, so we took them with us. Just the two pieces we took with us where around 4lbs. Had some last night with a potato dinner, twas GGgrreaaatt!!!
