The Medical Value of Nicotine....

This question has been bugging me for a while...what IS the medical value of nicotine that keeps it from being schedule 1, like THC, LSD, MDMA, etc... I mean, it's a psychoactive chemical that is known to cause countless health problems, and as far as I know there are no known (or proven) medical properties. Isn't that the only clause that keeps cannabis schedule 1?

Technically, there are few scientific studies demonstrating that nicotine has a "high potential for abuse". Rather, there is something very unique about the preferred nicotine delivery system (e.g. cigarettes) that makes them so "addictive".
And I don't think you can schedule a drug delivery device (the cigarette) so they get less restrictive scheduling.

I wonder how many people would take up arms if nicotine was scheduled. I know I would. I am a hardcore nicohead. Technicly nicotine is more addictive than heroine and cocaine, but the withdrawl isn't as severe.

It also cures good breath, the ability to breathe properly, an extra 6 bucks in your wallet every day, white shiny teeth...
I would really like it if they exchanged the tobacco in cigarettes with marijuana. Along with the cultivation laws and all that. That might make the with drawl a little easier to take.

Its the fact that tobacco companies have billions of dollars to openly lobby with. And the fact that a significant portion of people are addicted to it. Tobacco has a long history of being illegal in other countries though. In China the penalty for being caught with it used to be death. In Russia, if you were caught using snuff, they would cut off your nose. If you were smoking or dipping, they'd cut off a lip. But then the nobles got addicted to it and the legal status changed.

I think nicotine used to have some medicinal value, but these days it's been rendered obsolete by other drugs.
The only reason nicotine isn't schedule I is that if you tried to ban tobacco outright, there would be widespread rioting. I guess it's also fairly easy to ignore as a public health concern, since smoking it doesn't make you intoxicated. You can smoke on the job or while driving or whatever without it impairing your performance.

Has anyone ever sued the DEA for allowing nicotine but scheduling other chemicals with no solid evidence for one over the other? Of course, the tobacco companies would win the lawsuit, but wouldn't that open the doors for a suit against scheduling Cannabis, using the same billion dollar case that the tobacco co's used to save themselves? (fyi, this is my secret plan to get weed legalized)
