Yea I got these foot tambourine things you can tap. Nice for extra percussion if your solo

I present you with a song I wrote on the fourth day of a completely unhinged meth binge last February. It seems to be part of an incomplete musical I was writing. Set in the contemporary United States, the play closely follows the story of the Odyssey, but reinterprets the central conflict between Odysseus and Poseidon, as Odysseus struggling with alcoholism, drug addiction, and the trauma of the war he is coming home from.
This song depicts Odysseus's encounter with the Laestrygonians: giants, borne from Laestrygon: song of Poseidon. This event leads to the destruction of 11 of Odysseus's 12 ships, and occurs just after his crew foolishly opens the Bag of Wind given to them by Aeolus.
I'd like to flush out the instrumentation with drums, some heavy brass in the baseline and maybe electric guitar harmonizinging with the upper register of the piano. The brass I'll have to do digitally, but I can record the rest myself. I want to emulate "Hell Broke Luce" by Tom Waits in terms of the instrumentation, timbre, and general sound/ feel. The rhythm, chord progression, and vocal melody on the other hand I am going for something more like "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone.
The only other song I have fully deciphered from my almost year old psychotic scrawlings depicts Odysseus's meeting with Aeolus. It's a call and response with a lead guitar which I imagine playing a catchy but simple riff (probably five or six quarter notes of single intervals, four of which are the same as the rest. Interlude only dressed up a bit). Lyrics are pretty self explanatory:
Quote:
(Interlude var. intro) I've got a bag of wind (Riff) I've got a bag of wind (Riff) I've got a bag of wind (Riff) I've got a bag of wind (Riff)
(Interlude) I've got a bag of wind (Riff) I've got a bag of wind (Riff) I've got a bag of wind (Riff) and a crystal ball
(Interlude) I've got a bag of wind (Riff) I've got a bag of wind (Riff) and a crystal ball (Riff) and a candle flame
(Interlude) I've got a bag of wind (Riff) and a crystal ball (Riff) and a candle flame (Riff) you know it's all the same
you know it's all the same (Riff plays into interlude var. outro}
I haven't figured out much of the music for this one, but my vision for it is kinda like a shorter, more repetitive and more off-beat version of "Honey White" by Morphine. Sax for the lead instrument would be dope honestly, but unless I use a sample I'm not sure I could make it happen. Another piece of inspiration here is the verse section of "Blister in the Sun" by the Violent Femmes.
The next section AFTER the Laestroginian Blues would be the year with Circe, for which I might just use a rendition cover of "Heart and Soul" by Hoagie Carmichael arranged for piano and two voices. On piano it's similar enough to the previous song that I could easily work out a transition between the two that communicates time passing. Heart and Soul's ubiquity as a piano duet would make the introduction of a new character (Circe) here pretty natural. Ideally the familiarity and sweetness of the song would lure the audience into a false sense of resolution so that they could better empathize with Odysseus when he realizes he wasted a year under Circe's spell.
If I stay interested in this concept album / musical there's a lot of other sections I'm going to need to consider. If you have any ideas about how they could be depicted musically please let me know! To name a few of these sections there is:
The conquest of Cicones The isle of the lotus eaters The blinding of Polyphemus (This is where the ones above go) The journey to the underworld The burial of Elpenor The Sirens Scylla and Charybdis Helios's Cattle Big Storm Destroys Everything Calypso Return to Ithica, suitor shenanigans

What about trip playlists? There is no copyright issues there. Just tell us the names of the tracks and we can then go and buy the music.

This is the most jangled and jagged rhythm I've ever played in. Robert Frost Lyrics. Acoustic guitar is a Korean Emperador.

Cory, you're very off-beat with your playing on the guitar with the drums. Are you aware of that?

I'm aware it's not perfect, I don't always make music that is objectively perfect, nor does it conform to the listeners tastes or prejudices. However, I understand what it's like to put every note in a perfect place, but that has it's downside as well. I've got a frosty, jagged, off beat style, I like to play in 3.

I've been ejoying all the live music stuff! Wish I had a new keyboard. Here's my third song since taking a break. I feel I may be onto something here. Was very "Lorn" inspired. Would love some comments or if anyone knows of other places to share our music!

^ That's good music, EE. Thank you. I don't know how/where/when to get more airplay. The electronic music I hear on the shroomery is often sublime. There are so many fantastic electronic composers on this thread. I wish I could say more, but I'm a Tao Te Ching kind of guy, words and intentions often fail.

Fiddle Man, I'd love to sample that video and try to come up with something, with your permission.
Popped out with this today. Made these two really cool textures from a Nexus synth + more effects than I can count and decided to make my first drill beat.
