Yea, go ahead and say it, im a dumbass. I was in a hurry when gettin supplies (im a first timer), and i didnt think to get wide mouth jars. How am i supposed to get my cakes out when the time comes? My friend has a glass cutter, and i was thinking that would work. Is that a good idea, or does anyone have any suggestions? BTW Ive just innoculated 24 jars of Tasmanian this morning. Everyone wish me some luck, b/c i know im gonna need it. peace

Cutting them out would work, you could also break the cake up and case it, or even flat cake it. Any of them will work.

take a fork and soak it in bleach. dry it and wipe with a lysoll wipe. stick it in and turn it. after a few times, it should be broken up. just case it.

It is not anything you cant correct , do as Servator said and you'll be okay . Do not forget to properly sterilize whatever you use to cut them .

Breaking the jars would be far more work , and a waste of a perfectly good jar , there are other techs that use narrow mouthed jars , and you may want to try them someday .

Dont cut the glass, its a waste, you don't wanna do cakes anyways, just use a fork to pry them out, and crumble and case, you'll get better results IMHO...

Smash the jars, this is called the 'Easter egg tek' 
They are no good for future experiments, so why bother to try and keep them?
All you need for the above tek is a hammer

Don't smash the jars. They will be useful down the road when you decide to play with whole grains. The best thing to do would be to cut them out, crumble them up, and then case them.

They're more expensive in many places for one thing -- often more than double the price you quoted. Also, I would argue that one may enjoy better returns when the cakes are crumbled and cased.

I have to disagree here. They are certainly good for karo jars. They will also work for spore printing, not to mention the original purpose they were designed for. If this were me, I would dig em out with a fork and buy some bed a beast at petsmart and make casings.

i use regular pints for birdseed. they work fine. actually, they are better for grain to grain transfers because they are easier to pour from.

why the hammer? put them in a few plastic shopping bags, and swing it against a brick wall. Casing is a far better option though. what size are these jars?

Since it is your first time, why not just fruit them in the jar? Open it up and drizzle a little pasteurized/sterilized casing on top once they are fully colonized. For humidity you could just mist once in a while if you don't already have a terrarium set up.
