PhanTomCat said: Hey, "Ant Lions" are pretty neat.... All you need is a little fish tank with some sand, and a few ant lions.... They bury themselves in the sand, and make a conical sand pit (trap).... You drop an ant in, and they fall into the pit, and as they struggle, the ant lion throws sand out from the bottom, making the ant fall down with the shifting sand.... Then it's pincers grab the ant and drag it under the sand to eat....

It's like the Venus Flytrap of bugs....
>^;;^<
I had ant lions for a while when I was a kid, I found some in my yard and put them in a glass bowl with some sand. If you feed them every day, they get really fucking big. I think it's due to the fact that they don't usually eat much, and don't waste much energy, so all the nutrition goes to growth.

www.antlionfarm.com ; i think was the site i bought it at. very cool the only problem was catching ants in the winter time.
if you are thinking about a praying mantis shop for mantis egg sacks, they are roughly $30 and sold as an organic insecticide basically like ladiebugs, and you can get about 100 mantis per egg, they will eat eachother while young unless you seperate em but youll get the best survivors later... kind of brutal but then again so is this
Holy shit that little dude got owned by the mantis

i've wanted to open an exotic bug store for a long time now.
i think bugs as pets are pretty common in asia, i think if they were expensive enough, and the cages pretty enough, it could be popular over here too.
btw if you're reading this and steal my idea. hire me plz.

rhinocerus beetle stick bug some large spider that spins a web.
I would like a large spider the most by far, does anyone know of any large spiders that spin webs?
Or just any pet bug that they would like to have? I just got the idea recently, and I've always loved bugs since I was little, but the upkeep on bugs is preeeetty low for most of them, so i could support them on my budget. I was thinking scorpions maybe because they fluoresce under blacklight
Anyone have any suggestions or input?
In the past 2 years I have captured two of these fuckers inside my house.
They are huge and they fly. They're called Triceratops Beetles. http://bugguide.net/node/view/69272/bgimage

It looks like there's a lot of blending around the bottom and some around the corners. Like any skeptic, I'm calling photoshop.

i've seen similar things. that doesn't, however, look like a botfly larvae site.
it looks a lot more like a brown recluse spider bite.
