quick question for ya moe...i am really interested in trying this and I don't wanna fuck it up did you just dump the substrate into the bottom of the cooker, or did you set on something or what? It seems to me that it would get burnt and stuck to the bottom if it wasn't in some kind of double boiler setup. also, you should deffinatly post some pics. MOE, how did you empty the water from the cooker without breaking the seal. If you didnt empty the water wouldnt that be too much moisture for mycelliumm to grow in and possibly harbor contams.

This may not apply to a material like vermiculite and brownrice flour, but I must point out a danger with cooking stuff in this manner.Boiling can splash material over the vent hole in the pressure cooker, effectively blocking it. This can cause the detonation of the pressure cooker. If you have a guage and watch the cooker close, it may not be a problem. I know that this has happened with applesauce and bean soup (lentil I believe). Very messy.

Hey Moe! that large cake would make a cool gift to a fellow shroomer. instead of making a birthday cake one could make a large pressure cooker cake to give to a shroomer friend! they could take it home and put it in a growing chamber. It would be a gift that would keep on giving!!!!

How did you stop the bottom from gettin burnt? If you could make a plexglass lid for your pot could you turn the pressure cooker into a terrium and grow in the same pot you cook in. ------------------ Be careful who you pretend to be, because you are who you pretend to be.

You have 4 pressure cookers! Holy shit, man. How on earth did you end up with 4 pressure cookers. For most people, it would be a boring storry of wedding gifts, and attic antiques, but I'll bet not from MOE's crazy ass. I bet he kicked a nazi ass for one, rescued a dog from a burning building, and had one donated to him from the police department. I have 2. 1 doesn't work. see, kinda boring, but i'm not Moe, you can't expect much.------------------ I can't go on talking like this. I just had a mental picture of Angel.... Now I'm speechless.

Oh GOd ! I can see it now. Moe's Tech! Ok let me see if I got this straight.
Step 1. Go out and get yourself a cheap (goodwill)(salvation army)etc. pressure cooker. Step 2. Prepare the substrate....enough to fill the cooker, in the usual manner......add some water (1/4 to 1/2 cup?) Step 3. Pressure cook for normal time (15-20 min for what? 45 minutes. Step 4. Let cool. Step 5. Inoculate through cooker hole with 2 12cc syringes (mycelial water). Don't forget to cover the hole. Step 6. Put it away and come back in about 3-4 weeks then: Step 7. Plop out the Cake. Moe's Tech! Moe you Rock!

I'm suprised I didn't stumble over this thread earlier! That is one cool idea. 24 quart pressure cooker. Isn't that like 96 half pints? Shit, half full it would yeild the same as almost 50 half pint jars. Just pop it out and cut it up. You dont have to mess with any of that half pint jar setup either. You could case that stuff and get even more. Christ, you could slice off sheets of the stuff with a long bread knife. I think I could do without my pressure cooker for three weeks to give this one a try. I NEED to give this one a try!

Hey guys...it's a ruolette....i mean...how can u be sure it's completely colonized? In the other hand with strains like PF if u wait too much they starts pinning anyway...maybe a pyrex glass pot works better but what about contams??Tnx to all

i dont see how on earth it could start pinning since no light is getting into the pressure cooker, the reason they start pinning early is cause they get light

I wonder how in a flyin' feck did you allow for perfect cook time to boil off the perfect amount of water from the substrate? That is some kick ass stuff, definitley Stoner smart. I was thinking about this just now, I wonder, I don't have quite as good luck so how about putting in a usual amount of water and placing a container which fits into the PC without touching the sides ofcourse. With an open top on the container so you can still innoculate with the same method. It would decrease yields a bit, but with a well fitting container not too much, it would also make it a tad easier with the water concentrations.

all i can think of is that somehow your cakes got light prolly before you ever left, we all pull our jars out into the light to look at them, ill bet it is enough light to start them fruiting, the reason they didnt start pinning before you left was because they simply werent ready IMHO

I have often encountered cubies pinning after incubating in total darkness. It never has been a uniform pinn set however.I think the pressure cooker thing is too kewl, but it worries me greatly that there is a strong potential for a mishap.
