Have you had any success with potato dextrose agar as opposed to PDYA? I don't have a brew supply store near where I live, so I don't know where to get brewer's yeast or yeast extract.

Luck...I don?t know if it?s luck, but I?m using it in various amounts from time to time. It works, can?t tell a big difference though compared to formulations without.

"I don't have a brew supply store near where I live, so I don't know where to get brewer's yeast or yeast extract. " i can get it in small supermarkets. chemists and health shops should have it. it is a nutritional supplement and not used in brewing i have never seen it in a brew shop and i have been brewing for about 10 years

Yeast extract IS a very common addition in winemaking,as it is a fairly inexpensive source of nutrients. It is not needed in brewing beer,as wort is more nutritious than wine must, and the fermentation of beer is shorter and less stressfull.
OT,but now you know...

"Yeast extract IS a very common addition in winemaking" i dont doubt you but i have never seen it used or on sale in brew shops. is it recommended in old recipies when proper nutrients are not readily available. i know homebrewing is not big in the US so nutrients may be hard to get. BTW would yeast nutrients be useful in making a liquid innoculant e.g. diammonium phosphate? i would like a crystal clear innoculant and cant get corn syrup here
