How far away is it from the Gander Mountain Sports store up there? Last time I was in that area to check out some parts at my Off road fabicator's shop, I checked out the Gander Mountain.
Nice store but it's nothing like Bass Pro Shops. I'm going to have to take a trip up there just to walk around and maybe try out the restaurant.

The Gander Mountain is less than 5 minutes away. There's also a Dicks Sporting goods and a family owned hunting/fishing shop called Greentop. The Gander Mt people are worried that Bass Pro is going to take all their business.
Where are you coming from??

Personally, I find hunting to be revolting. If you're doing specifically for meat and hide, then great. And I give props to those of you using a bow. Guns are fucking cheap.
Here's a song I think is hilarious.
-------------------- "If I had a single wish, I would have every single human on this planet see this natural world the way I see it; the beauty in such simple things such as a fallen tree that is covered in moss and that has new trees growing from it. To some, fallen trees are ugly. But in reality, it is the circle of life at its finest. This is a beautiful world, its time that we recognize that before its all gone."

Maybe thats because their prices make ticket scalpers look modest.

Chesterfield. It's about a 40 min drive and I usually go up there to pick up stuff at Independent 4x, which is an off road fabrication shop that's right down the street from Gander Mountain.

Bow season starts this Saturday in my state so I've been practicing and getting my gear together. Does anyone else here hunt?
do you bowhunt from a treestand?
I don't hunt anymore(I was born and raised a hunter), I enjoy(and have a natural skill for) scouting/wildlife tracking.

What city is it if you dont mind? I would like to read up on that. If you are not comfortable with giving the city....what about the county?
That is too bad that they would do that.
I live in IL. and it is hard for me to even afford to go Waterfowl hunting anymore. The steel shot regulation and the waterfowl stamp/habitat/hunting license fee. Once Im in the boat and on my way to my blind. Im out about $150 in shells and permits.
Trying to scrape every penny from someone until they can't even afford their own gas to go to work.

why do you trap? i hunt and usually only need one shot to kill but trapping sounds medieval and barbaric ... "160 conibear/#2 double longspring leg hold" so... somethine clamps down on the animals leg until it starves or bleeds to death? WTF?! does anyoneone else see something wrong with this picture?

I went deer hunting for the first time in ten years Saturday and got this (the big buck in the picture). I don't think my dad's going to let me hunt out his stand any more. I'm not a trophy hunter, I hunt for the venison, but I'll sure as hell take one if it walks on in.

I'd be careful, deer hunting can lead to deadly games of Russian Roulette in seedy dives in Saigon.

Yea, but only if your state allows deer hunting w/ semi-auto rifles, and you'd probably have to use a magazine that only holds 5 cartridges or so if there is a limit to that as well.
Depending on the caliber it might not be a good idea; i.e. an AR15 chambered in .223/5.56 is really on the small side (not enough knockdown power), some hunt deer w/ .223 but I wouldn't recommend it.

I got my first deer on friday just before dark. It is quite an experience. It's amazing how fast your heart beats when you finally get one in your sights. Dropped my deer off at the processor on sunday. I'm having a basic processing done with 10 lbs. of venison beer sticks, mmmmm. And 10 lbs of maple brats, mmmmm. Muzzleloader season starts on Saturday, I will only go if I think I or someone I know can use the venison. Nothing goes to waste.

Gotta love the things you learn taking a shit on the can w/ cabelas to read...
