Young hallucinogen drug users increasing in the Big Apple

The use of a hallucinogen drug called Salvia has drastically increased, with tens of thousands of youngsters in their 20s taking it to experience a high.
The use of the herb, a member of the mint family, has largely increased as 5,000 videos detailing the legal herb's effects have already been posted on YouTube.
According to a report by Federal Health Department, 1.8 million people have used the drug in their lifetimes, and up to 750,000 tried it in the previous year.
Salvia can be bought online for 12 dollars an ounce.
Daniel Siebert, a botanist and salvia expert in Malibu, California, said that the herb was originally used in religious ceremonies by the Mazatec Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico.
"LSD is the most potent hallucinogen, and salvia is a close second," the New York Post quoted him as saying.
"It's like going into a dream world for a while, except that one still is conscious while it's happening," he added.
The herb is not banned under federal law, and thus is sold legally on line.
Arena Ethnobotanicals of Encinitas, California, is one of the companies that sells salvia online.
"We have huge volume for the New York region and have had a 1,000 percent increase over the last few months," said manager John Boyd.
Other online sellers also revealed that the demand for the drug had increased from the Empire State.
The spike in sales has spurred two state senators to try to control the drug.
In March, Senator John Sampson (D-Brooklyn) introduced a bill that would classify salvia as a Schedule 1 drug, the same category as LSD and heroin.
Upstate Senator George Maziarz (R-Niagara County) introduced a similar bill. (ANI)

Unfortunately, using any of the current, objective, scientific assessments of hallucinogenic effects, its likely Salvia and LSD would produce substantial overlap.
A lot of people don't realize how difficult it is to empirically document the effects of psychedelics.

wow thats sad... those people that make the countless videos on youtube about it have nothing better to do usually.
i cant theres tons of videos on youtube about the people on LSD,E,K,PCP,ayahuasca, and mecaline containing stuff, but you can find stuff about the music they listen to. i find it odd they dont say anything about the drugs i mention if its really that not that well known then good job! plz let the cops worry about someone on Salvia.
personally those people deserve pressure salvia isnt something to mess with at all and has some unhappy spirits about its use and abuse in common days

They always play the LSD is potent card for propaganda. Isnt that a good thing? That means there is a less of a chance of other more dangerous chemicals getting in the mix. EX. Potent marijuana is safer than mexican shwag.

But I read:

Would have been much better!
By the way, there's way too much stupid people 'detailing the use of salvia' on youtube. I thought it might be good to see some responsible people enjoying a salvia trip, but it's all morons on there :/

yet still even with the insane rise in use there still has not been one single mishap directly caused by salvia statistically salvia is one of the safest drugs

What can you expect.. all these dumbass kids posting their videos and shit.. while it might be entertaining its definetly not a just cause for trying to keep in legal. and although its more than videos.. its solely the ignorance of those who partake that ruin it for the rest

These articles seem to be so formulaic.
I find it funny they call people who are 20 "youngsters."
One day they might consider that drugs can be used spiritually and it isn't always about chasing a high or escaping.
But bravo lets focus on victimless crimes while we continue to fight a war. I wonder why i live in America.

Shit is a joke. So, okay, youngsters in thier 20's, uh? So, now, by this BULLSHIT INCREDIBLY FUCKED UP logic, youngsters are now aloud by US law to vote. AND Youngsters are now aloud to purchase cigerettes. Youngsters are also aloud, by US law, to be porn stars. !!! Smoke em up, you porn star voting "legally adult by law" kiddies!!!!!!!!!! OH ,and "Youngsters" are also aloud to be tricked into getting thier left testicle blown off by roadside bombs, but no, thier not aloud to smoke salvia. THIER YOUNGSTERS FOR GOD SAKES!
According to that guys logic, at least.
..youngsters with credit cards,...

NY is where I tried salvia for the first second .... and tenth times, I hope they dont make it illegal everywhere
btw... "LSD is the most potent hallucinogen, and salvia is a close second," the New York Post quoted him as saying.
yeah. salvia is by far the most potent hallucinogen, I would say second is DMT and then third, I dont know. depends on dosage of certain things
and salvia is nothing like LSD so I already want to kill whoever that quote is by

Yea the new buzz words for salvia have become "mexican LSD". I've heard it been called that a few times.
If you've tried either substance you would know they aren't really the same they're just both hallucinogens.
