Ugh... just when you think things are working! So some of you might remember I was curious about casing vs. not casing. I cased most of my trays for 50/50 peet-verm as RR specifies in the vid. Those look good, no pins yet, but they are larger trays. Theyve been in the FC for about five days.
However, the three trays that I didnt case and put directly into the FC using only crumpled wax paper on top are giving me cause for concern. First have a look at one of the two that arent producing pins yet:

Frankly it looks dried out to me. And it probably is. I was not misting the surface of these trays. I wrongly assumed that I shouldnt mist the pure myc surface. To give a little more info, the myc layer up top is pretty hard - not rock solid, but pretty hard. You will see tons of indentations, valleys, plateaus, etc.. so I am hoping the primordia is near ready to break through. There is a little odd discoloration (a tinge of yellowish-orange on one, but very little and not growing).
Now take a look at another tray treated the same way:

You see pins, but they are all taking the path of least resistance right now - coming through the cracks where the myc/sub contracted (likely do to moisture loss I know).
These trays have been in the FC for probably 10 days or so. I have begun misting them with a fine mister and exposing them to a coolmist output to help rehydrate them, but I could use some expert help.
I know that lack of misting caused problems, that was a beginners mistake, but now... what is the best way of salvaging these guys?
Thanks, a

I don't think this is normal, but is it salvageable?
Thanks

look up "overlay" you basically let the casing colonize too much.

They were NOT cased. Just colonized and placed in the FC with wax paper on top.

Looks like it to me too. Also looks like your humidity is too low. Up the humidity and I bet those pins that you do have will take off quite nicely.
After the first flush is done you might want to scratch that blocks surface real good and apply a casing.

have you tried dunking your case in water for about twelve hours? I came across a similar problem a couple months ago and heeded my friends advice to dunk, it worked and flush well. since then I have dunked every casing. mycellium floats so i use a dinner plate and a 3 pound weight to hold it under. Be careful not to break it up treat it like jello fresh out of a mold when your done soaking it. in a couple of day you should see some growth.

why not? it keeps bacterial growth to a minimum while you wait for it to absorb as much water as possible.
