fanning and contams
    #899731 - 09/22/02 06:32 PM (15 years, 10 months ago)

Last time i lost a large portion of my cakes due to contamination during fanning. I made sure that everything inside the terrarium was completely sterilized. So i could use some airstones in a vase to supply the oxygen but the items aren't available to me around here. So i need suggestions, like i was thinking about spraying some lysol or something like that around my terrarium before i fan. Well any suggestions are appreciated, thanx.

always do that before handling your little friends.  It won't hurt them unless you are spraying directly onto them.  Go ahead and do it

If your cakes are fully colonized when you put them in the terrarium, then fanning shouldn't cause contamination. Are you saying they were contaminated before any flushes or after a couple flushes? Cakes will usually only produce 3-5 flushes and then will die off turning blue and eventually getting contaminated.
