Temperature: Colonisation and Fruiting
    #898855 - 09/22/02 08:36 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Ok , so I figured out , that the Temp should be at least 20 Degrees Celcius (68 Fahrenheit) for any Shroom growth. Secondly the Temperature for Mycelium Growth should be higher than the Fruiting Temp, right?
If this is true then I will probably encounter the following problem:
My Colonisation-Cupboard will supply round about 23 Degrees. My Fruiting-Chamber (A PC - See Guerilla Growing Post) however can give me 25.6 Degrees(maybe even more , the Thermostat is advancing little by little every now and then), which would be great for Fruiting! My concern is now , that obviously I will have a higher temp for fruiting than for conolisation. Is this a problem? I mean Cubenis are said to first of all react to light , in order to initiate pinning. I could even cold shock before , and that will definitely "tell" them to pin won?t it?
In case somone asks: I can?t put them into the Fruiting chamber for conolisation , cause the heat source is a halogen lightbulb.
Thankyou,
JazzMatazz

I use a light for my incubation chamber (regular incandesent, not halogen).  I think halogen gives off too much heat, not to mention very little light is needed and halowgen is normally pretty intense.  I just lay a dark towl over them to block the light.  Then I remove the towl when at about 75-80% colonization.  For  fruiting I use a large rubbermaid container and  a floresent light on top of it.  If you can't find one with a clear lid try finding a large piece  of plexiglass and attatch strips of wood arount the edges to create a lip that fits snug to the top of the container.  The temp stays at about 75F this way.  Fan and spray the walls of fruiting chamer once or twice a day.  All of this can be done very cheaply.  Hope this helps you some or gives you an idea.

Well what you have should work.  The fruiting sounds a little warm but with a good cold shock you should be able to trigger friuting.  Who knows you may not even have to cold shock.  But it wouldn't be a bad idea.  I belive 80F would be the warmest you would want to let the fruiting chamber get.  Too hot will dry out your cakes or casings.  Like I said before I would try another type of light either floresent or incandesent.  For fruiting it is better to have a cooler enviroment  between 70-75F (to trigger good pinning) and as far as your colonization goes I have colonized in your temp. range and the only difference was it took an extra week or two to completely colonize.  I hope maybe this answers your questions a little better.
