the possibilities...

The future can head in many directions. Technology is just one aspect. It can enslave us, help us, destroy us. Just think of the possibilities of what it could do. I think we are heading into space. Once we learn how to artificially create environments on other planets, and if it is even possible.. we could move there. Just as the more and more we grow in population the more and more unique we all become. The possibilities are endless in this world. Seriously though...

Maybe one day we will create technology that will destroy diseases permanently, or maybe artificial inteligence that can manipulate nature in a sense. The more i think about the possibilities the more i think about how we are god in a sense. We are in control here. We can create things that could defy nature. Maybe some of you are afraid to defy nature. Imagine if we were in complete control over it. Imagine if we could control the inner workings of the earth.. like make it rain when we want it. Maybe everything around us will become artificial. Just try to imagine a complete artificial world.

The possibilities are endless...  :grin:

What kind of possibilities on what this world could turn into do you have? Wether (sp?)it be with technology or without... I know most of you have great imaginations so let me know what you have in mind.

Maybe we will learn to infuse our spirits into mechanical type devices, like computers... it could solve overpopulation, and instead of relying on food for energy, we could rely on electricity or solar power. It would be cool to be a computer and know how to program yourself... you could have endless possibilities if you knew how to directly manipulate the "coding" behind reality.

I believe traditional technology of today will be replaced by a more biological based technology.

To sum up what i think about this world and its possibilities, would be to say :
We live in a world of endless possibilities!

But i guess i will go into detail some...

What irritates me, is when ignorant people try to debunk what i think, and say "NO! thats impossible." or "NO! they dont exist".  How can you be 100% sure of anything you do or say? You cant.

To best describe infinite possibilites, would be to think about alternate worlds, where the  you  in the other worlds made different choices which lead to different endings. Anything could happen. Anything could exist. Anything could have happened. The possibilities...endless. This was best depicted in the book series "The Wheel of Time". The show "Sliders" did a commendable job at showing something like this.

My view on technology is... it could go either way. It CAN destroy us, and it CAN evolve us. The book "The Giver" had technology where they could control the climate. Though the technology in the book, was for the worse. I think it would be possible for technology to help us advance in a spiritual sense. But we would all have to join together as ONE.

I watch alot of sci-fi too, but right now technology is "enslaved" by humans.  If AI comes, we might want to set the slaves free?  Tip: never set a slave free if its gonna kill you.  If we can make technology better, then we should... but if we make AI machines that want to enslave us?  Wouldn't that be ironic.  That's not making technology better.  Moral: We shouldn't make AI robots that want to kill us, but we could still have AI.  Trust in Isaac Asimov. :smile:

Ultimately, an artificial reality is still made of reality, its just reconfigured.  There would still be randomness: unpredictable and uncontrollable acts of nature.  I'll settle for virtual reality tho!  With VR we could have many different artificial realities.

The movies Matrix and Westworld come to mind, where we could visit virtual realities that are experienced as artificial realities.  We could do anything within reason, visit friends across the world and have them pop up a webpage on a virtual wall in a virtual office, keep virtual doors locked, have rooms gaurded with guestlists, alter your appearance to others, define rules obeyed by visitors to your personal virtual land, etc. 

Each person have their own "mini-matrix".  Virtual wars could be waged where no one dies, where people could release their competitive aggression without killing.  Increasing lifespans.  Some people would spend alot of time in VR, but many people would not.  VR could be like a TV or a computer: used in moderation to enhance life.

The problem with AI...

Yes, when we finally create intelligent machines, will we give them morals?

If we don't, will they turn on us because they don't have morals?
And if we do, will they find us humans to be utterly immoral creatures and turn on us BECAUSE they have morals?

Before we give the gift of sentience to our creations, we should make sure our house is in order.

correlation does not mean causation. also intelligence does not only exist in humans yet morals are a man made institution.

correlation is still true, and i have that for my argument.  i suppose we'll see when AI is made, huh?  :smile:

how did morals get here?  intelligence.  how can we tell if something is intelligent?  one method: it produces (has) morals.

intelligence isnt an indivisible concept.  it is a combination of many things, including emotions and morals.

correlation may be true but it doesn't prove anything. and it is a stretch at correlation at that. saying that every man made institution got here from intelligence is just wrong. almost every institution came from greed and the hunger for power and ignorance of the unknown. are you saying that there are universal morals. i think that morals are different on an individual basis and are not universal eventhough religion, government, familys, etc.... try to impose them on us.

morals: time-based ethical decisions; a set of predetermined answers to a set of broad ethical questions.  used to make quick reactions, when otherwise, the cost of thinking through the full answer, would be too slow to make action when needed.

q: should i kill other people?  a: no. 

if i pick up a gun, i ask myself "should i kill other people?"  i immediately answer: "no", based on my morals.  otherwise, i would not know what to do, and it would take me a long time to have an internal philosophical discussion with myself on whether killing is right or wrong.  in the meantime i might have decided to try shooting people, because i was too stupid to think of a reason not to.  thankfully, because of my morals, i dont start shooting people when i pick up a gun.

i believe morals and intelligence evolve in parallel.

universal morals?  in the sense that alot of people believe similar morals, yes.  thats what makes a moral pragmatic.  :smile:

what if your life depended on you shooting someone. what about morals and how they apply to sexuality. how do morals about sexuality relate to intelligence? i believe intelligence and morals are two totally different things. morals are brought on by religion. our true morals, which i dont really consider morals, i consider instinct, we were born with. true morals are nothing more than instincts, the rules of survival and how they survive natural selection through evolution.

depends how much you value your life over the other persons. i would definitely shoot Hitler if it meant i had to live. it wouldnt be a tough decision. but i would not shoot Mother Teresa to save my own life.

"morals" is a word to define something. "instincts" is also a word. they are similar but they dont define the same thing.

IMHO, instincts are a beings "rules of survival", morals are a beings "rules of behaviour". morals are made, in part, from instincts. intelligence is made, in part, from morals. consciousness is made, in part, from intelligence. etc.

what do you consider a child. legally a child? there are some adults i would consider a child. 12 year olds used to get married. why are we biologically able to have children at the age of 10? I think morals, as you speak of them, have a lot more to do with religion and controlling the masses than they do with intelligence. humans are supposedly the most moral creature on earth yet we are the most destructive. other organisms can live in symbiosis with the earth while we have to dominate and destroy it. maybe AI's that have don't have dogmatic morals will be better equiped to fit in with nature.

Are you saying that humans are the only organisms with intelligence?

i think morals, as i speak of them, have a lot less to do with religion and controlling the masses than they do with intelligence.  religions contain moral codes.  religions are created, in part, by human psychedelic intelligence.  religions can be used to control the masses, by controlling the intelligence of the masses, by controlling the moral codes of the masses.  there is nothing immoral about it.
