SNES Rpg's
    #8975762 - 09/23/08 09:53 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

Well, i'm bored as hell. I'm looking for an rpg game that I can get into for the majority of the night. I loved final fantasy 7+. Havent played any other than those. Here is the problem. All I have is an xbox and xbox doesn't have ANYTHING for rpgs. It is a modified xbox and has emulators for the snes,n64, and gameboy advance right now. i'm looking for a good rpg to get into.

The FF games for SNES are sick. Specifically, FF2 and 3 have great story lines and some sweet chars. Those games seriously bring me back to like the 2nd grade, haha.

Also, its not an RPG, but YOSHIS ISLAND!

ChronoTrigger is probably the highest rated game out there, and probably the funnest one when I played it many years ago. Also Secret of Mana has awesome gameplay, but little to no story.

Ogre Battle is good too, with a very good story.

Those three are probably the least "aged" of the lot.

The FF games I find are a bit tedious and less timeless.

On the other hand, metroid 3 is more of a puzzle type of game and would be fun no matter how old you were. But it's not an rpg.

Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma are top-notch.

They're both pretty well developed in the story department. :yesnod:

A lot of these games are very childish and will not interest an adult. Games such as Terranigma, Illusion of Gaia and Shining Force all tend to have very childish dialogue and storylines, as well as tedious gameplay.

The games that adults are most likely to find fun are puzzle type games, not rpgs.

The only two games I can think of with adult storylines are Ogre Battle and Phantasy Star 4 (for sega genesis). Otherwise I suspect you will be a tad disappointed with the suggestions made here, including Chrono Trigger, which is often cited as the best RPG ever made.

If you have an N64 emulator, try Secret of Evermore.

My favorite RPG of all time.

Ogre Battle was pretty cool.

I haven't thought of that game in years.

Super Mario RPG for sure if asking about SNES.

Though I hope you have played the few RPGs on the Xbox that are out there. Fable, Morrowind and Jade Empire come to mind.

Final Fantasy 7 was my favorite RPG of all time, along with Chrono trigger for the snes.

I've beaten Chrono Trigger almost 6 times now.

Also, I've beaten FF7 in 60 recorded hours. Quick huh?

In the future i wanna buy a ps3 and get the newest FF... which i think is FF13.

Anyway, play Mystical Ninja, great game not much of a rpg though. But still very fun.

Zelda: The Adventures of Link is a great game and so is Super Mario RPG..

Well good luck in finding a great RPG to play there are many out there!

Have fun!

Peace,
Droz

THIS!    Awesome awesome game. Wasted tons and tons of hours playing this game back in the day.  You could beat it (with difficulty) at around lvl 60, but I leveled all my characters up to 99.  At 99, the combo moves broke for some reason (really pissed me off), but your characters were so overpowered by that point, you really didn't need combo magic to kill anything.  Really nice storyline.

Chrono Trigger was good also.  I'd say it's on the top 5 RPG list.  Yes, it may be 'childish' in some ways, but still an epic immersive story.  I highly recommend it.

Best SNES games of all time:

  • Chrono Trigger
  • Earthbound
  • FF 2 & 3
  • Secret of Evermore
  • Super Mario RPG

Get all 12 endings in Chrono Trigger, Just don't forget to use the real save points though or you don't unlock "new game+" I played through once and just used the emulators save... /wrists. ><  The story takes a bit of thinking to really appreciate.

Earthbound has a truly heart warming story even if it plays a little on the childish side.  Funny too! My second favorite game of all time (right behind Chrono Trigger)

Nothing needs to be said about FF.

Evermore, just be sure to read a guide when you get to the pyramid to prevent having to start the whole thing (the game, not pyramid) over...

Mario is another one of those just plain fun games.

All said, Square is/was the shit.  All these games are my favorite snes games of all time and the only one not made by them was earthbound. If you expand the list out to all systems the only things that change is FF7 is added to the list.

You're absolutely right.  Almost all of the RPGs I really enjoyed were put out by Square.

I think I read somewhere that FFXIII will be for 360 and PS3.  Which works out, because i've got the 360. Just waiting for the release. Final Fntasy 7 was my favorite RPG as well.
