I don't expect Biden to be able to tell us just where in the periodic table of elements we might find silicon, but I do expect him... and EVERY member of Congress... to know who was president when the stock market crash of 1929 occurred.

Dude, it's not just the "irrelevant historical detail" that there was nothing other than experimental television equipment in 1929, it's that Roosevelt wasn't president at the time, Hoover was.

Here we have a guy who has been in the United States Senate for thirty-six years who doesn't even know what year one of the most revered Democratic (his own party, remember) presidents of all time became president.

Biden's pronouncements make Bush look like a genius. There is no other US politician as downright stupid as this asshat, as anyone who watched the Democratic candidate debates can attest. Or anyone who has had the unfortunate experience of watching the various committees on C-Span on which Biden has served. He's a freaking self-parody.

Yep, it isn't irrelevant, he was inferring that the stock market crashed and we had the new deal in a few months- which didn't happen.  Its a period in time he should have some basic knowledge about, espcially about roosevelt given his substantial involvement, and how that period in time will forever be remembered as the point when the federal government broke free of any constitutional restraint as to its size and ability to meddle with individual's lives in every conceivable way.

What concerns me far more is the misstatements John McCain has made repeatedly regarding Iran. I think this is much more relevant to the life of the average American today than something that happened almost eighty years ago. But he gets a free pass from partisans because he's a republican.

Sen. John McCain has done it again.

For the third time in two days, the Arizona Republican has pushed the definitively false statement that the terrorist group Al-Qaeda was getting assistance from Iran, even though he was publicly ridiculed for the same false assertion on Tuesday.

This time, in a statement from his campaign honoring the fifth year anniversary of the war, McCain wrote:

"Today in Iraq, America and our allies stand on the precipice of winning a major victory against radical Islamic extremism. The security gains over the past year have been dramatic and undeniable. Al Qaeda and Shia extremists -- with support from external powers such as Iran -- are on the run but not defeated."

On Tuesday, the senator, appearing in Israel, made a nearly identical assertion that al-Qaeda was leaving Iraq to retool and regroup in Iran.

It was, he said, "common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that's well known. And it's unfortunate."

Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who was accompanying McCain on the trip, was forced to lean over and whisper in McCain's ear that it was Shiite extremists, not Sunni al-Qaeda, that was going to predominantly Shiite Iran.

In regard to the New Deal, which we are still fucking paying for today, I have read more than one argument that it actually prolonged the Depression.

Biden is a veritable assembly line of gaffes.  Henry Ford would be proud.

Pair arrested for bags of 'Obama'
By: Rose Quinn, rquinn@delcotiems.com

Two Delaware residents are giving new meaning to the term "pushing" Obama, according to criminal drug charges filed Thursday.
Fifty-two bags of heroin in bags stamped both with letters spelling out OBAMA and an image in the likeness of Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama were confiscated following a routine car stop on Interstate 95 in Upper Chichester, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Arrested were driver Nichelle Prince, 26, and Jacquene Walker, 21. The two were arraigned on drug offenses before Magisterial District Judge David J. Murphy in Aston. Bail was set at 10 percent of $20,000 each.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled next week in Magisterial District Judge David Griffin's court in Lower Chichester.
According to the affidavit of probable cause for arrest written by Trooper Joseph Thompson, the drugs were en route from Delaware to Chester.
Thursday night, authorities in Chester said they had not seen any similar packaging on the street as of yet.
"We've seen Jesus, stars, spiders, all kinds of stuff, but not very detailed. They look more like a little kid's rubber stamp," said city Narcotics Capt. Alan Davis.
He said the stamp signifies a specific dealer, or a group working together.
According to the arrest affidavit, Thompson was on patrol when he saw a northbound while Buick with dark tinted windows.
Thompson activated the lights on the marked state police cruiser to initiate a stop around 12:35 p.m. He approached the vehicle and asked the driver to put the windows down because he couldn't see inside. The driver, who put the back window down, identified herself as Prince, but said she did not have her license with her. A piece of paper she provided for the car had the name Nichelle Clint written on it. She told Thompson she didn't know why that name was on the paper.
In the time it took Thompson to speak with the passenger, learn he didn't have identification and walk back to Prince, she had her driver's license in hand.
Prince was eventually found to have been driving with a suspended license. Thompson called for a tow truck.
During an inventory search, Thompson found four bundles of heroin stamped "OBAMA" in the console of the car. Prince and Walker were arrested without incident.

Biden -- Energy Gasbag
Biden is one of those politicians who honors the old notion of looking like he might be an idiot, and then he speaks and removes all doubt. Democrats are determined to punish America over energy. They seem consumed by the lunacy that energy is like alcohol -- a good-time elixir consumed at parties that leads to headaches in the morning.

It's not. The prosperity of the US has sprung from a few well known sources: Democracy and Capitalism, and Energy. Cheap abundant Energy. Biden, however, is befuddled when it comes to the role of energy in the economy. Worse, he thinks it's better for America if energy costs more.

Based on his support for punitive strategies like cap-and-trade, it's clear Biden wants to enact as many de facto taxes as possible on Americans who utilize the energy that makes the economy move.

Biden's Coal Slaw

The classic definition of a gaffe is when a politician accidentally tells the truth, and specialists like Joe Biden can work wonders with the form. On Tuesday Barack Obama's running mate blew an easy question about coal, revealing volumes about liberal energy politics.

Working the rope line in Maumee, Ohio, the Senator was asked by an environmentalist why he and Mr. Obama support "clean coal." "We're not supporting clean coal," Mr. Biden responded. Then, riffing on China's breakneck construction of new coal plants, he continued, "No coal plants here in America. Build them, if they're going to build them, over there."

Coal happens to be the indispensable workhorse of the U.S. power system, providing about 50% of the country's electricity. Many Democrats nonetheless despise coal -- because of pollution before the era of scrubbers, but especially now because of carbon emissions. Al Gore favors an outright moratorium on coal-fired power in the name of climate change. Meanwhile, any scheme to tax and regulate carbon -- like the cap-and-trade program backed by Mr. Obama and John McCain -- would hit coal first and hardest, effectively banishing it from the U.S. energy mix.

Mr. Biden, then, only stated an obvious if politically unutterable truth. The real costs of green ambitions won't be paid by well-heeled coastal liberals, but will fall disproportionately on the Southern and Midwestern states that depend on coal for jobs and power. The blue-collar voters of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and so forth will get hurt most -- notwithstanding Mr. Biden's campaign reinvention as the scrapper from Scranton.

As for "clean coal," the Obama campaign actually supports it. But this too is a political bait-and-switch, perhaps explaining Mr. Biden's confusion. In theory, clean coal would require capturing greenhouse gas emissions, compressing them into liquid and then pumping it underneath the earth. Even if the technology were ready for commercial deployment tomorrow, to sequester just 25% of yearly U.S. CO2 emissions would mean moving volumes more than twice as large as the world's current oil pipeline system can handle. That will require an enormous amount of money, and generations to build.

That an eminence like Mr. Biden is clueless about coal suggests how little official Washington has thought through the consequences of its anticarbon agenda. His blunder is also notable because it exposed the realities that politicians prefer not to voice amid an election campaign. Coal-state voters should be watching what their politicians really have planned for them come January.
