It has not been disturbed that I know of. The only disturbance it gets is an annual flood or two because its in a flood plane.... theres alot of washed up rotting wood around. They seem to like this.

I went on a pretty extensive hike day before last and went through a goodly range of terrains. I saw my share of non-actives and such. I was quasi-deep woods so i dunno. Your photos show so much difference the only obvious common demoninator is the nipple on top. It prob means the mushroom is able to adapt in alot of enviroments....Do you guys think that these mushrooms were found due to alot of new building in heavily wooded areas? maybe lawns exposed a wood loving mushroom that the woods had hidden. I likes natural habitat photos.

Your fotos "kill me", every sat. afternoon after work (halfday) i go on a forray w/ cammera, fannypack and bike, spend at least 5 hours, only leave footprints and only take pictures, but the whole time i see your pics in my head wonderin' why this woodlovin fungi is not more prevelent in north georgia, anyway you keep my hopes alive that it will acclimate, and find its way to me elusive and yet i'm constantly looking peace
