bipolar disorder
    #8966609 - 09/22/08 02:00 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

i really think i might have bipolar disorder,
from my random thoughts of suicide and depression which sometimes come from nothing, and the upness and spurr i get sometimes where i feel invincible.

will it make a difference if i get tested?

im a naturalist so i dont like taking supplements, but recently ive been taking sleeping medication cause of my problems sleeping, im edging more not carring about pill popping.
will these medications change who i am?
i want your 2 cents.

and please no trolls, i would really appreciate real responses.

Well from what I have read some of the medication that people are given for bipolar and hypomania sort of stabilizes peoples moods, and sometimes people will change a bit. I can't remember exactly what I read, but I'm sure it was basically along the lines of the person not being as excitable as normal, and I guess become a bit 'bland' to some extent but I don't know if this is true for sure.

I know that generally if you can get by without medication it is better, because the elevated periods of mood tend to bring lots of creativity with them, and if you put it to good use you can be quite productive.

I'm no doctor though, so I am just going off memory.

No doctor here but I would just get tested it will be good to know regardless  if you do or dont want to take medication, and it would be good to talk to a professional about your situation and they would be good to offer options for your situation wants and needs.

If you have bipolar, you go from extreme depression where you want to die swinging to extreme happiness where you are on top of the world.  The medications shave off both extremes.  Unfortunately, the extreme happiness is addictive, much like a drug, and many bipolar people refuse to take medication because they lose the high swing (forgetting how bad the low swing is).

That's it  A complaint heard from many who take lithium, which is a regular treatment for bipolar.

I've heard of a woman who self-treats her bipolar by ensuring high intake of omega-3 fatty acids by eating fatty fish a few days a week. Apparently, it works for her and it's definitely worth a try, even if you're not actually suffering from bipolar but just from continuous depression, which is somewhat more common.

taking things to seriously will give you a head ache,  just go with the flow and sooner or later things will blend in and itll be less of a rush and ive been through some weird emotions in my day but it seems time and preservation heal all wounds

I too feel I have bipolar tendancies but I'm really not sure if it's 'natural' or drug induced. :justdontknow:

it doesn't quite work the same when the body is producing disproportionate levels of chemicals in the brain.  diet change may help, but sometimes things just don't function right.  if it really is bipolar, one can't really "go with the flow" as the flow is messed up

this seems to be my route as well, ive been hassling myself for almost 9 months now and i figure its a good time to get right

The general rule is that if it's seriously affecting your life or preventing you from doing the things that you want to do, it's probably time to start thinking about treatment methods.

That has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. I'm saying that when a medical condition stands in the way, then it's probably time to do something about it.

Stands in the way of what? I mean, where do you put the threshold? I feel that as a (Western) society, we're sometimes pretty intolerant of any 'abnormal' behavior or feelings.
