Anyone know what variation of Astrophytum Asterias this is? I bought seeds online, but all they said was "Rare Form Astro..."

Not sure, but I'm interested myself.
I just started germinating 6 Astrophytum Asterias cv. Super Kabuto seeds, can't wait till they pop.

It actually looks like some kind of hybrid.

Looks like maybe myriostigma/asterias... oh, and provided seeds are at least somewhat fresh, germination rates are great. Out of the last fifteen I planted I got thirteen.

Agreed. I have looked at that particular item myself. I think its a little pricey, and I wouldn't expect the seeds to produce such a cactus as in the photo. Its probably a stock photo. This would be my first question: "is that a stock photo?" Beware of stock photos. Not all is as it seems.

Yea you're probably right I asked him if the seeds I got were from a cactus like the one in the picture, I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Its a kick ass looking cactus though, It would be great for the seeds to turn into that.

Damn thats nice! That is music to my ears, for my San Pedros rates are no where near that. I've had 5 sprouts out of 35 so far, and I just planted about 25 more a few days ago. I hope things go well.
Thanks for the good information guys, I appreciate it. I'll let you know what that guy says.

very interesting plants!!!!
for the record....many, many astrophytum cv's are hybrids....thats why we can have so many weird types....true breeds rarely produce such varied phenotypes...gotta mix things up a bit

Yeah they are neat. I plan on collecting more. Right now I am stuck on lophs. But I started my collection with an Astro asterias oobio kabuto. And while the pic doesn't really do it justice, Its the prettiest one of its type that I have ever seen.

There are ppl out there that strictly collect astros, and I understand why. They are some of the best germinating cacti IMO. And the real odd yet beautiful specimens can be worth a nice chunk of change.
