Refridgerator as a Terrarium for my Casings?
    #896442 - 09/21/02 12:48 AM (15 years, 8 days ago)

The temperature in my closet is about 80 degrees so I am looking for a cooling solution for my casings. I have a small unused refridgerator available, but need some advice on how I might get this to work.

The first major problem I see is getting the humidity up. My other concern is mold/bacteria contamination and temperature regulation. Any advice is appreciated.

If you submerge a small fountain pump in a container full of water in the fridge, you can connect tubing from the pump to fruiting container. Use 1/4 ID tibing from your pump and arange inside of growing container in a radiator type of configuration. Maybe use duct tape to space the tubing as you arrange it inside the walls of the container. Dude has done that with an old regular size POS fridge and is able to get a huge container 20X20X36 down to 63 F with outside temp close to 100 F. Hope that helps.

Cooling an entire closet is going to be a challenge unless you plan to spend a little $$$. Cooling 1 or 2 smaller containers with your fridge and some 1/4 tubing $.07ft., fountain pump $15.00 - $25.00, duct tape $1.50, small container for cool water from fridge $ 7.00. Price is relative to the resources you have on hand. Not a bad investment.

I was thinking to cool my rubbermaid in a similiar way I keep the temperature hot, by stacking it inside another one containing a water heater and 1/3 full with water. Yet instead of a water heater, I would rotate several ice packs one or two times per day. You guys think this might work?

De JA Vu.....I was thinking about the ice packs and two containers today...You'd have to stay right on top of it though. I assume you have a good hygrowmeter?
Anyways,I think it would work pretty good if you kept a close eye on it..What about the rest of you guys?

5 degrees is no prob.
Items: Fan, Ice, Tape, Trash bags, medium to large bucket

Set the fan up to blow the ice in the bucket through a trashbag that is connected to the fan. Make sure you seal the trashbag all around the fan with tape. Cut a hole in the unopened trash bag end and there ya go COLD air in your closet.
The bucket must fit inside the trash bag.

I wouldn't even worrying about cooling if the temp is only at 80. if you're talking about p cubenis that should be fine.

it depends on the size of your closet. I had a small one (40*70*50cm) and used to put an ice bottle to keep temp down, maybe you should give it a try...
Good Luck
