Acid versus Shrooms
    #8963276 - 09/21/08 12:23 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

Very soon I hope to take my first jorney on some cid.  Of all the psychedelics I am the most familiar with mushrooms.  On mushrooms when it gets heavy about all you can do is lay there and listen to music.  I have never really planed out a shroom trip.  Never felt a need to.  However my friends tell me that with cid you need a plan.  You might actually get bored while tripping.  You will have energy to do stuff.  How different are they in this way?  Can I expect to just lay out some where while I am tripping on cid or will I be up doing stuff?

good analogy
it's especially true if you replace shrooms with dmt.

haymaker, mescaline would be more similar to acid. you'd probably be a driver

For me mushies are much strange and have kinda like a eerie jungle like feel to them.  LSD is much more colorful, energized and and happier.  I personally prefer LSD but again MO.

Acid is like a steel roller coaster

due to the even ramping or "incline"
as the chemical loads into your brain
it may seem easier to function due
to the rhythmic consistency, creating
a sense of more solid "dreamspace"

Mushrooms are like a wooden roller coaster
due to the unequal revving up because
the chemical is absorbed in unequal
ammounts during digestion.
This can create a more unpredictable
"astralplane", because there are more
more variables concerned, creating
a "less smooth" experience.

The both effect your brain pretty
identically, and a mushroom tea
would result in a smoother acid like
experience.

The molecules have different lifespans,
I guess.

They are both very fine.

great responses however nobody has addressed my question though... because of the differences between the two substances do I need to actually plan activities for the trip?

imo yes you should plan the trip.  I get easily overwhelmed, not necessarily bad but none the less being out in society (stores, restaurant ect) can be an ordeal especially in high doses.  I am more experienced and prefer LSD than shrooms. live music on LSD is the bees knees:tripping:

It's actually good to plan activities, the first time i took LSD the trip was during the middle of the night i was a senior in highschool and my buddies parents were home.  So we sat in his basement, and besides occasionally sharing our thoughts with the other trippers i just sat there and thought about philosophy, life, me.  I couldn't stop thinking about the big bang.  I remember thinking that i know what its like to be schizophrenic.  Not in a bad way though ya know?  As mckenna says the shaman and the schizophrenic swim in the same water.

Nah, don't need to plan activities.  Bring what you like to do while tripping.  I'm fond of having a PSP with happy games on it (Loco Roco), a natural place to go for a walk, music, and above all a place to be alone.

Seems like once I'm up what activity you decide to spend your time doesn't matter as much as how you are doing it.

I've never really felt the need to "do" anything whilst tripping other than listen to music and watch my friend juggle and spin poi.

I really don't think that you *need* a plan to trip on LSD, any more than you do with shrooms.

I find LSD and mushrooms to produce almost identical experiences, except that LSD lasts twice as long and is more stimulating (YMMV, but IMO, many of the differences which people perceive and believe to be due to the inherent properties of the drug are really specific to the user and have little to nothing to do with the drug - which is an opinion that apparently is so offensive that people here are often compelled to either call me an idiot for thinking that or to claim that something is fucked up in my brain if I can't see it).

I have a really hard time imagining getting bored on LSD.  Go ahead and form a plan, but don't stick to it rigidly.  If you feel like deviating from the plan, go for it.

My advice is to expect basically the exact same thing as a shroom trip, except it will have a bit more of a speedy edge and will last twice as long.  You might find them different, but I don't think there's any good reason to expect many of the differences that some may claim exist.

Just for example, I find analogies like "on acid you're the driver, shrooms the passenger" to be completely illusionary.  Most of the poetic-metaphors that I see about how these drugs differs don't apply to everyone and might even restrict one's experiences by narrowing the range of one's expectations.  Clearly, I go against the grain on this point of view, but just to emphasize: I think that most of the characterizations which you will find here about LSD vs. mushrooms can not be genuinely attributed to the inherent properties of these drugs.  The psychedelic experience is known to be highly variable even for an individual given the same drug merely on different occasions (and I really think that many people totally underestimate this variability and have falsely concluded that they can "perceive" the differences).

One of the worst analogies I've read, for example, is about how one could tell the purity of LSD by the analogy of looking out a window.  Anyway, since I think differently and don't mince words, I'm obviously a moron so you may as well ignore me.

the only thing you really need to plan is 12 hrs or so of free time as opposed to the 5-6 hours for shrooms

You never feel the urge to swing it yourself?

It rocks ya know..

Personally I use one ball to spin, it's a little different. I find it to be a lot more fun and personal. It's more about flow than tricks and patterns and stuff, kind of more along the lines of liquid dancing.

^I'd love to, but I just don't have the dexterity for it. Swinging poi whilst tripping would be fantastic, I think. I'll admit, I often wish I could do something like swing poi or play guitar, but I don't have the fine motor control for any of that. I'm dysgraphic and, I have no better way to put it, kind of twitchy. I never stop moving, often kind of random movements. They're small but noticeable to other people. Been that way my whole life. The twitchyness has actually decreased since I started tripping.

I definitely say plan. On acid, I become the mega tweaker. Sitting still for me is pretty hard and I like to go places. Sitting at home and just chilling out to music isn't very ideal for me. YMMV of course. This is the same with mescaline. I need a pretty big playground.

On the few mushroom trips I've had, there definitely wasn't that drive and I felt lazier like I could lay down.

I wouldn't MAKE plans but just be sure that you have something to do or somewhere to go. Walking is my favorite activity on acid. Shrooms make me too relaxed to do anything (I'm stuck in that room for 4 hours). I get a lot more adventurous on acid and like to go exploring places Ive never been to, or places I haven't been to in a long time. Just make sure you have a safe place to go for mental security, and you can just follow your impulses. This leads to really memorable experiences for me, sitting is just too boring.

Wish I had some now...:(
