Hard Drive to Television Set?

What's the easiest, cheapest way to use my TV as a computer monitor?
Would I need to install a new driver on Ubuntu?
Is there a VGA into S-video adaptor?
Thanks.

Yes, and it's cheap. But, my VGA card must come with a TV-Out function.
In order to use this function, I may need to open "Terminal," and enter a few lines of code, in order to install another driver.

Do most, modern VGA cards come standard, with the TV-Out function?
How can the system be commanded to look for that function?

I'm not the expert on these things but you want something better than a vga card. Those things are like dinosaurs. I was thinking about doing the opposite, using a large monitor not only for the computer but for tv too. Some video cards have a tuner built in or you might be able to use the tv out jack on your set to your computer. One day they will be built together as one unit.

Yes, all graphics cards come with TV out. Usually in the form of an S-Video cable.
Note that the max resolution of a standard definition TV is around 640x480 and computers look terrible. You can't use it as a monitor. It's fine for watching videos though.

It not that I want to use the TV as my monitor, so much as I want to use the internet as my cable box -- if you catch my meaning.
Basic cable sucks, and satellite is more of the same sucky channels.
Keeps me from ripping DVD's all day, and then watching them only once.
Thanks for your input.
By my understanding, all I need is some free code and cheap adapter, then.

fyi, pci cards hate ubuntu. ubuntu never seems to auto config xorg.conf correctly resulting in your os not being able to boot past trying to load drivers. if u have a pcie slot however, get a good video card and go for it. otherwise, find someone who can code an xorg.conf file for u.

Thanks for the casual advice, which is better than what I get in the huffier forums.
So far, most of the people who've invested themselves in the freeware scene are very political, but I take no offense when the flaws in my browser are mentioned.
