what to do with deformed pinheads?? (BRF cake)
    #8957782 - 09/20/08 05:44 AM (15 years, 4 months ago)

Hi,shroom guys.
I have a question regarding my BRF jar.

What is the best thing to do if pinheads have already formed between a jar and mycelium?
All of them are small and deformed and already green.

Is it better to pick and remove all of them?
I already dunked it.
Since I am not goot at rolling and casing,I'll just put this on perlite in a shotgun terrarium.

Thanks in advance. Any advice will be appreciated!

Leave them on the cake.  I dunk mine with pins and they turn out great.

Not bad advice.

Leave the pins in place. They'll often triple in size during an overnight dunk.  If they do abort, you can always pick them off later.  It's normal for the fruits that form invitro to be bruised and deformed.

Water is 1/3 oxygen.  That's more than is in air, which is 1/5 oxygen.

No, he is saying that they will get the oxygen they need while in the dunk phase.:banghead:

I should have seen this thread earlier.
coz I...already picked them...they looked really weird.
They didn't look like mushrooms but crawling greenish earthworms,
stems were not round but flat, and didn't think that this could become healthy mushrooms again.

But while I scraping and picking I suddenly felt very sorry for the pinheads for killing them ,
getting rid of thier oppurtunity to grow.I appologised for them and left the rest.:)

BTW,I know the differnece between mold green and bruised green.

I know why pinheads formed between the tiny space.
After dunking,I remembered that I am not good at dunk'n roll.
That's  probably because I have been trying to grow in difficult situation.
High temperature in hot summer and a cool incubator(like a wine celler
usually used for incubation not for growing-I'll never use that again) and less FAE.I didn't know this site.

Anyway Now I have two bulk tubs growing. So I decieded to practice casing.
I put the BRF cake back into the jar and cased with peat and verm and waited 4 days.
Then I found a great thing.
Cobweb all over.I sprayed H2O2.It vanished.
The next day, cobweb all over again.
I took the mycelium from the jar and washed off the casing.
I said to myself,I shouldn't have cased BRF cake in the first place.
I put the cake on perlite then realized the deforemed pinheads.
They tried to grow during the 4 days.

Thank you all for valuable advice.
I'll do better next time.

It's really not hard to put some verm in a bowl and throw the cake in it, and toss the verm all over it like it's sexy.
