Spore print question
    #895635 - 09/20/02 11:58 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I have been told that some of my friends prints are small (lets say as small as the size of a dime). Well here is my situation/question, I wake up in the morning and check my neighbors crop and find that some caps have broken their veil I can do either of two things. A) Get out the glove box and lay out the cap for a print or, B) go to work and come home 12 hours later to find that the cap is now fully open and has also dropped its spores. At this point I can attempt to make a print but most of the time it will be very light, large but light. Sometimes I am lucky enough to catch it just right and get a nice large dark print but that only happens about 20% of the time. Obviously its a matter of timing but when you dont have the luxury of being able to check your neighbors shrooms 24/7 because of things like work and sleep you have to take what u can get. I would think that the spores from a cap that has just broken its veil are fairly concentrated just not as spread out over a large area and therefore not as attractive? I have also been told by one member that the smaller prints are not worthy of trading (I offered to send a second print but he was very gracious about it). What is the consensus on this issue from my fellow Shroomerites? I know there are several questions within my rambling but do the best u can.

Note to Mods: I think that this question belongs in this forum but I?ll not be offended if you find a better home for it.

Larger prints are usually preferred when trading. All the small prints I have, I usually give away instead of trading. The only time I trade small prints would be when that's all I have left and someone knows about this on the front end and is cool with it.

Concerning how to print, I would think the opened caps would still print well. Just let them sit longer if you're getting light results.

Mickey i have let them sit for as long as 14-16 hours would you reccomend longer? I know if i catch the cap right i get a dark print in 8-12 hours.

And now that I know better I have been giving the small prints away or saving them for myself.

If 12 hours isn't cutting it, try 24 hours. Don't print in a sealed container, crack the cover some. Let the cap breathe and dry out a bit. I bet you'll get better results soon.

Peace

OHHHHHHH I always have a glass on top of the cap (no airflow) Wouldent it promote contams if I cracked the seal to let air in?

I use a plastic, tupperware style container. I leave the lid on very loose and barely offset. Don't have a huge, exposed gap. It also helps to do this in a draft free area.

To me a print is a print as long as it's visible. Sometimes I get larger ones. I use the dixie cup solution. Not the hard plastic, but the cheaper ones. This allows the cap to dry better. IMO
