Brusing: Can it appear slightly greenish
    #8943008 - 09/17/08 06:49 AM (15 years, 4 months ago)

I've got a weird spot on one of my cakes after dunking and rolling. I'm pretty sure its a bruise, because I remember touching the spot with clean hands trying to gauge the cakes moisturize content. I jabbed another spot on the cake to try to get a reference bruise but it didn't react so I guess I need somebody with more experience.

PS: Swabbed w/ qtip that had a little alcohol on it (kill anything that was on the qtip and mayby whatever it touches on the cake. If it was a bruise, it'll grow back. If it wasn't a bruise it was getting cut off.) and nothing came off.

I have the same thing on a cake for a week now it's green/blue and it's not spreading around so i'm pretty sure it's a bruise. I hope you have a bruise to.

Did you try smelling it? Either way, I would isolate it away from the other cakes. just to be safe.

Yes bruising can been green, mould will look like sand on the surface of the cake, bruising is the colour of the mycelium itself when touched or is drying up.

Take a q-tip and rub it on the area, if the colour transfers its mould..

You most likley have bruising.

Did you dunk your cakes and is your humidity high>

Yea, I did the q-tip and nothing transferred. It just spread that it bruises blue.

I should look up the exact chemistry of it, its probably an oxidizing reaction and things often turn blueish and then green when oxidized.

Oh, and I'm picking up an adjustable humdistat today, maybe. (if they're not too expensive)

A quick search will show that psilocybe mushrooms often bruise either green or blue.

They can bruise very VERY easily. If it looks more blueish green it is definitely bruising. They can also bruise inside the jars. They can bruise in the FC due to dehydration I guess too. I think someone on here told me that if it is trich you will definitely know it, because it will be a definite green in color, and be like a sandy surface in the outside of the cake.

Trich is white! The spores of trich are green!
