Hey there! Welcome to the shroomery!
Please make sure you read the Updated Rules and Guidelines sticky on top of this forum.

You got close now, but these are all Myrtillocactus geometrizans (Blue Myrtle).

odd specimens, they look like myrtillocactus of some sort, but they also kind of look trichocereusy in a small way.

my bet is myrtillocactus though.

Thanks for your help guys!

I do have a question though, doesn't cactus 3 look different to cactus 10? Or is it the same species? (Blue Myrtle)

ethnoguy,
I haven't bought them yet, but they priced around R50 to R150.

i think they are the same, myrtillocactus geometrizans, they get longer spines when they grow up.
cactus 10 is probably a cutting from older growth.

just my opinion, i'm not saying that you are wrong scruffy :tongue2:

Yeah i know, but the simple fact is - im always right  lol

Its simple to see the differences. Take the ribs for example, M. sch has fat ribs that flatten out a few inches from the top, where M. geo generally keeps its ribs CS-star shape.

Also the rib count is usually 5 for M. sch and usually 6 for M. geo at about 6" tall.

im curious to know what you think of my 8 ribbed myrtillo's

yeah i've got myrtillocactus geometrizans with 5 - 8 ribs, and spine lengths that vary from short to long...

i think you are barking up the wrong tree scruffy, they are all m. geometrizans in the original post.

spine length and rib count don't count for jack, those factors are quite easily explainable considering natural variation within a species :yesnod:

Haha, you didnt think that was funny? :frown:

Umm.. yeah i think what i was saying was possibly incorrect. Most likely not a different species but definitely a significant genetic variation in the species. Short-spined myrtles... Indeedy
