For Those About to Buy a Macbook

Should a person go for it now that we've seen it's not coming out this month, and could possibly be delayed till early next year because of the intel chip they're using?
Should one worry about the nvidia cards in the pro's going out after 3 years?
I wanna hear any gossip and tips for those debating when to buy the macbook with the new, cheaper, faster macbooks looming, but never quite released.

The rumor mill claims updates are due out middle of October... of course, the rumor mill is often wrong.
> Should one worry about the nvidia cards in the pro's going out after 3 years?
The average life of a laptop is around three years. Applecare, and move it when the warranty expires.

i figured ill be out of college by the time it'd die anyway, so even if they still hadn't released info on whether they will issue replacements or not, which is very unlikely, I can always just get a new laptop.
I just ordered mine today (macbook pro). Got the free ipod, 200 bucks off, and added an extra 2 gb of ram to future proof it.

Word of advice: These fuckers run hot. During gaming, even with a laptop cooler, the bottom and the part of the casing above the keyboard (used to spread heat from cpu to metal case) is hot as hell.
I -think- the current cpu's use 45nm tech, which is probably a lot cooler than my 65nm one...tho, that doesn't mean anything to the video card. Also, the current macbook pro's still use the 8600gt. Not only will it fail, the current models have the 'hotfix' applied... and from what I understand, that means they're downclocked to prevent heat issues.

Just buy one of those fan pad things for laptops, it's worth the investment. If you really have absolutely no money, bottlecaps

But seriously, even tho the C2D cpu's are rated 100c+ operating temperature, that sort of heat can't be good for the parts around them. I'll give apple one thing, they designed the case using metal vs plastic, to make the case itself into an extended heatsink of sorts. When I'm feeling paranoid, I have a fan pointed slightly over the hotter parts of the case during gaming.

Ha, I have an Alienware laptop that is almost useless because of heat issues.
You can put a powerful fan right by it and have a lap-top cooler under it and it will still overheat and shut-off after about 30 minutes in graphics-intensive applications
What a piece of this thing is. Never again with Alienware...

How long have you had it? That doesn't sound too normal to me, even with the heat-traps new high end laptops are these days. I see 2 possibilities;
1. You didn't clean it via compressed air at least once a month. They tend to build up dust fast, and if not cleaned on a very regular basis the dust can get stuck and impossible to get out without taking the thing apart.
2. Some part of the cooling mechanism is messed up. Maybe the fan is dying, or maybe you need new thermal paste.
You still got a warranty on it? Maybe you can send that over priced junk back for some repairs.

The couple of alienware computers (desktop and laptop) that I have worked on were complete junk... overpriced junk at that.
