1. Free Will vs. Determinism
a. Randomness Exists vs. Ordered Universe
2. Why?
3. God Exists vs. God Doesn't Exist

Keep the comments to a minimum for now, please.
I'm thinking of writing a FAQ for these stalemates so that we can save some time by NOT repeating the same arguments over and over. I think it will help ensure harmony around here.

well im not educated enough on the subject to know stalemates but heres some that i ponder alot

Can happiness exist without ugliness to make it happy?

Is war part of human nature, or just a bad idea someone had several thousand years ago that could have been logically dismissed?

Is there a 'true' reality of how humanity functions in the world, or is everything just based on majority perspective?

hehe I don't happen to think this one is a stalemate in itsellf. the problem lies in that some believe in consciousness existing in some supernatural realm, and others believing only what can be observed; that consciousness exists in the brain. one's opinion on free will vs. determinism a vast majority of the time depends solely on this

Historically, truth was grasped by only a few (for various reasons). However, I don't think truth can only be grasped by a few... Maybe one day people will put down their Maxims or Cosmos and pick up a philosophy book instead. Wishful thinking, I know, but I can always keep that hope alive.

Now, back to the topic at hand.... stalemates. I'm all ears.

4. Realism/Idealism

The reason that these 'stalemates' exist is that the various camps cannot agree at the foundation. This is why idealists and realists cannot advance individually or contribute to the advancement to philosophy as a whole. The sciences are able to do this because of its adherence to methodological naturalism and its exclusion of teleology.

5. Logical Postivism/Metaphysics

I think you have a great idea in making an FAQ however, unlike the other forums this is one where repetetive threads are a great thing. Debate, so long as it's healthy shouldn't be discouraged. Even though there are stalemates and I will never bring you to my side nor me to yours, maybe some understanding will come from them none the less.
