I add verm right away just like I told you to add gypsum in the bottom of the bucket I put in 6 cups of coir that is roughly 20% then I add coir and water then mix..

noobieshroomie said: yes i do straght coir some people sugest a mix but i do 100%coir i do 1qt spawn to 4qt coir squeze LIGHTLY i personly dont add anything to my mix just 100% coir one brick coir=aprox 12qts when wet i add 4qts spawn to that plus another 1qt as a top layer to colonize the surface faster so contams have less time to take hold incubate that at room temp for 3 to 5 days you should be golden
Hey how do you go about doing your top layer I have heard of this to try to help prevent contams.. Do you just like spread a quart jar over the top evenly ?? I want to try this on my next tub...

do you pack down the coir any? Do you leave it really fluffy? I think I'm not getting mine colonized because it is too fluffy on top and no grain on top.

he was talking about mine
it is good mycelium growth, rhizo, but it is just getting thick since it is day 20. I thought it would finish colonizing the parts it hasn't colonized.... I'm just gonna case it since it is like 95%.
I'm certain it will fruit well, maybe better because by the time I get it into Greenhouse it will explode with fruits.

would'nt having that micro climate be better than raw spawn? having somthing to keep moist and help protect agaisnt contams? i ask because i to am using the verm/coir for a spawn, and i noticed that it was also my casing mix...is it not needed, does the spawn mix cover this area? or should i go ahead and case? also, my last grow i pcooked my casing and pasterized, i got near the end of my 2nd flush before i seen contams...just thowin that out there*

Well I do 80/20 and then put some spawn on the top so that it colonizes the top first to protect itself from contams.. Once it is fully colonized you should not have to worry about contams to much..

Great looking coir.. excellent really very evenly colonized..
Be sure to case it for max yield!
