Dude, just do a search ... Im getting ready to do some edibles for the first time as well and if you simply type shiitake in the search bar at the top of your screen you will have a hundred threads several of which are really good grow logs so you can see what they did to get results and then immitate them. SEARCH function.
As for me, I purchased a shiitake syringe from sporeworks and have 500 ML of LC growing as we speak. Im planning on using 20% coffee grounds, aspen bedding, and some sawdust taken from the wood pellets that homedepot sells for woodburning stoves.
LC to WBS to aspen/coffee/sawdust = HUGE yeilds ... again do a search you will find the threads.
But, I think I might have to add oysters to the list as well, that pic above with the oysters growing out of the bag is badass!! lol ..
Definately want to try some lions mane as well but for now shiitakes are where its at for me.

Ya just do a search, if you type shiitake in the search function up above you should see a thread that says something like "woodless shiitake!" ... check it out. That guy used only coir and spent coffee grounds I believe 2 quarts spent coffee grounds to 1 brick of coir .... oh and he added I believe a 1/2 cup of gypsum. Got some great flushes.
Theres several other threads too using sawdust that show some MONSTER blocks and big ass shiitake ... cool stuff .. Ive probably read all those threads that I found in the search ... you should too

Morels cant be grown, well ... at least they are very hard to grow I believe theres only one person/company that has figured out how to do it and they arent sharing their secrets. If you want some edibles shoot for oysters and shiitake for sure ... your on the right track with those
Yes, theres a growlog that I found somewhere, I cant remember where but the guy used a cooler for cold shocking the shiitake blocks (he used sawdust based blocks) ... anyway the flushes he got were badass as well!
Anyway, shoot for oysters and shiitakes if you want to play around a bit, and defiantely read previous grow logs and threads. Type in anything you want to know about in the search engine "oyster straw" .... "oyster cardboard" ..... "shiitake coffee" ....
... and read the threads that come up .. you might not find the info your looking for right off, but you will pick up a ton of other info along the way you hadnt even thought about yet, and then by the time you do find the info your looking for ... you probably dont even need it because you've already found a better way

yup, Golden Teacher it is. Im not sure what edibles would be the best lo-rider .... Im just starting with edibles as is this guy. I would assume oysters from what Ive found from researching though ... sounds like those guys are pretty bullet proof as long as they have fresh air even going so far as to colonize and fruit off of straw soaked in motor oil! ... lol ... apparantly.
Cant give any first hand experience with edibles though as my shiitake quarts are colonizing now.
Look up oysters though for a first time outdoor grow ... depending on where you live of course.

thats what every one says shiitake,oyster i plan on doing them indoors because it will be winter here soon
plus i dont think mushrooms grow verry well in the snow lol i will probaly go with both but like i said i will search and read my ass off before i start.
keep the replies comin i like to know what every one thinks and maybe get more tips,advice

I have 6 pint jars of GT I inoculated last week! hoping to have them for Halloween! (if I don't mess up!)
Yeah im also new to each but I do have a few jars of portabella that I bought from the grocery store and took spore print and made 2 jars. Waiting to see how things go.

Do your reading as well lo_rider, portabellas are somewhat of an advanced strain, they are difficult to cutlivate ... doesnt mean you shouldnt attempt it, but dont be discouraged if you dont get results as they are considered a hard to grow species. You might look into oysters or shiitake as well.
Lets let the thread go back to the OP as its getting a bit hijacked

towards the end of the youtube release of RR's pftek video, he gives you the lowdown on growing shitake using the PFtek. I'm definetly going to try it. I got hooked up with a yellow oyster culture on my last sporeworks order, so I'll be trying oysters too, I hear they are very easy to grow. I also have a culture of warm weather button, but button doesn't interest me much.

i would really like to keep this post going evantualy turn it in to a grow log so if every one will keep adding info sugestions tips ect...that would be cool
i will keep everyone updated with posts and pics once i get started but for now i just want advice on how others have done this,and YES i will contuinue to use the search as much as i can
