Are you implying that there is some sort of realm beyond our physical universe that is purely "consciousness"? And if so, what does that mean? No sensations or external stimuli....just pure thought? I can't really wrap my head around what that would be like.
The way I see it, maybe there is one universal consciousness, one underlying creative force of life, the universe, and everything. Maybe this consciousness experiences itself through the many perspectives of all life that exists. Maybe each and every one of us are thus entangled and connected; not individuals at all, but to quote bill hicks, one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively.
If this is the case, then yes, our individual awareness will cease to be, because we are nothing more than the awareness of ourselves. But this is not to say that we will be aware from some other perspective.

Maybe.....thats an awful lot to assume.
But then again, so is pretty much every theory of reality.

Exactly.
But for me, its the best assessment of consciousness after some of my personal experiences with death and psychedelics.
But there will never be a way to truly know, so its best for us just to choose an idea that we are comfortable with, or whatever belief we desire.
That is all we ever can truly do anyway. Everything that we "know" are beliefs, nothing more. So why not choose the most interesting and liberating beliefs available?

Well if your like me and find most theories pretty interesting (not sure what you mean by liberating in this case), then it makes it difficult to choose.
I never like to make decisions until I have all the information, or at least, enough that my intuition takes over and I come up with a solution of my own. Apparently I haven't reached that point yet.
