Lots of rain, lots of fungi (NC)

Well it rained all day yesterday, and a lot last week. So after my morning class, a friend and I decided to take a walk through a local park. Last time I went I only found three different types of mushrooms, this time there were a lot more! No actives. But you can play the guessing game if you wish.
Obligatory habitat shot first:

 nature's bowl!

2 stems, one shroom

Wow nice mushrooms there. That flat forest area looks really productive.
You do realize that you found some Amanita jacksonii, right? If you aren't going to eat those you should mail them to me.
Also some Amanita that might be deadly, also probably Amanita cokeri, Agaricus, Tylopilus, maybe a blewit, Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, Lacrymaria velutina, and Mycena.

Wow! Nice pics. I counted at least eight in the first pic. Be careful, looks like you found some deadly ones. Keep it up, I'd love to see more pics from you.

Can someone describe the flavor of jacksonii?
People seem to like them a lot.
I think I'd be too paranoid about eating an amanita to really enjoy it hehe

Not sure how they taste, they don't grow near me. I am sure they are pretty good, probably a mild yummy flavor, depending on how they are cooked.
You don't have to be paranoid about eating them if you post good pics of the ones you plan on eating so we can look each one over and make sure you don't accidentally get some flavoconia or muscaria or parcivolvata in there. Start taking a good look at the base of the stem of each Amanita you find, you'll start to notice that there are a few different forms and knowing what to call those forms will allow you to know which section of the Amanita genus it is in.
A. jacksonii is probably the easiest Amanita to ID because its red and has a big sacklike volva. Its a lot easier to ID than muscaria.

The habitat pic is my favorite. I wish we had deciduous forests like that where I live. Breathtaking.
I don't know if you have any edible fungus there, but that turtle looks delicious. :p

Hmm the red ones were amanita jacksonii? There were a ton of amanita's out there, pretty sure some were phalloides but the pictures of them came out blurry so I didn't post them.
My friend and I thought they looked like red peppers. But if those are indeed jacksonii, there were tons of them.

Pics 14, 23, and 24 have the A. jacksonii in them.
When you pick them dig up the base of the stem carefully so they can be ID'd.

What would you suggest is the best way to transport them after being dugpicked? Paper bag? If I had a basket, I'd carry them that way but I don't think I do.
