Pins: little balls of Mycelium before proper shape?

Title pretty much says it all, do pins look like little balls of mycelium before they take on a definite fruit body shape?

Ugh, No bueno! This means I either let the pins rot in the jar or risk contams cutting off the uncolonized portion of the jar.
If you have pins, can you still spawn to bulk?

Yes little balls are knotting usually, which will then form into pins.
Im a little confused. More details pleased,
I gather that your jar stalled and you had to cut of the uncolininised portion. Pins wont rot in the jar, cutting of the uncolinised portion prevents contamination.

That looks to big to be a knot, more like a ball of mycelium (possibly mutation)

Here's a few. The term you're looking for is hyphal knots. They grow into pins in a matter of days, sometimes hours. RR

Nope, all my jars(5) have decided to start pinning before fully colinized, and I was planning on spawning a few to bulk, and the rest as regular cakes. I need to know if I can: 1. Still spawn to bulk for the 2 I planned to bulk. 2. leave them in the jars until fully colonized.
Also--- A good mix for bulk is: coir ~50% peat ~50% used coffee grinds until ~3.7% nitrogen and some vermiculite correct?

No peat in bulk substrates. The other ingredients are fine. If it's actually pinning before full colonization, it means the 'uncolonized' part is actually colonized by a competitor, probably bacteria. Birth, wash under the faucet until all the uncolonized parts wash off, and then break up the mycelium into your pasteurized bulk substrate. RR

Exactly what i was looking for. An example of what causes early pinning.

Well, the uncoloized areas are colonizing, the pinning is only in the oldest mycelium. And, I am doing one of your no-no's RR... using big jars for BRF cakes. :\

I just noticed... a lot of the knots are in the "dry" verm layer.
