contamination?

my friends jars are 8 days old and three of them have similar growth. it looks like trich, wispy and furry, not dense and bright white. the other jars show no sign of any growth yet. the mix, HMF, looks pretty dry could this be stunting the growth of mycelium?

Patients, the first signs of mycelium can be light and whispey.
