I'd put some Lactarius on the list. I nominate L. volemus.

Is this the one that smells like rotting fish?

Sort of, it's one of my favorites.

I heard that it's great in stir fry.  Is that true?  I guess it must impart a seafood like flavor to various dishes.

Yes it is great and does impart a seafood like flavor. I usually cook it with chanterelles and Russula virescens. L. volemus has great texture as well, pretty chewy.

It smells like sex and has the same fennel-like taste as fresh artichoke. It's one of my favorites, too.

I can't find much info on that mushroom.  Is it something that can be grown indoors or is it something that only be hunted down in the wild like chanterelles?

Wild only, like other Lactarius. It's hard to find in quantities large enough for a good meal, but sauteed with fresh tomato and fennel it makes the most amazingly delicious omelette you'll ever taste.
